    Hi Tim

One of the options in the Personal Book Tool is to Upload a personal book.

This uploads it to Faithlife servers and it will then be automatically synced to any new desktop / laptop you use.

If you haven't uploaded the Personal Book, you will need to build it again on the new laptop.

Whichever option you take, I recommend ensuring you keep the source files so you can edit / rebuild the PB if required in the future.

Be careful, I am not sure you can ever remove them if you upload them.

Also, you do NOT have to recompile all your books moving to a new computer. When you build a personal book, it creates a compiled file with a 'lbspbb' extension, which goes into your Resources folder with your purchased Logos books. So, I make a copy of all the files with extension lbspbb from my old installation Resources folder to a folder; there will be one lbspbb for each of your personal books. Once I have Logos set up on a new computer, I copy those files into my new Resources folder, and then from Logos I just do a 'Scan' command of that folder. Voila! All the personal books are in the new Logos installation without compiling a single one of them. It's tons faster to do it this way.

As an alternative to uploading the PBs to the Faithlife servers, you can also copy the PB files (*.llbspbb) in the Logos resources folder (for me on my desktop it is the folder D:\Logos\Data\0s1pyknt.tff\ResourceManager\Resources) to a USB stick and then use the USB stick on your new laptop and execute the "scan" command in the command box of your new Logos installation to scan the files of the USB stick. This scan will then add the files to your new Logos installation and your PBs will then be available in Logos on your laptop without the need to upload / download.

Wolfgang....  Thanks for mentioning this.  I had a devilish time when I bought a new laptop of getting my PB's loaded. Your suggestion is something I will do for the future! I really didn't want to upload my PBs but had to at the time as I didn't know a better way.

    Thanks again.

    to a USB stick

Using a Cloud source like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive is another way to have access to your PBs without having physical media.

This is my preferred method. [Y]

  • Thank you, I will upload the books :)

Yes, you can scan the compiled files from your OneDrive. It is also a way to access the source docx files on different installations.

Even though you can be spared the need to rebuild all your PBs on your new installation, I strongly recommend keeping the source .docx files, for a number of reasons:

    1) In case you ever find a typo or other error in one of them that you want to fix.

    2) In case someone else learns that you have put the work into making the PB document and would like you to share it with them. There is a library of user-contributed Personal Books on the wiki: https://wiki.logos.com/User_Contributed_Personal_Books

    3) In case Faithlife ever changes the file format of built PBs and forces us to rebuild them from scratch; not likely but you never know. Better to keep our source files and then we are in control.
