I have been an Accordance user for many years and recently started using Logos. Using Accordance, I have shortcuts through the service menu where in Pages, Word or any Mac App, I am able to import verses into the App by pushing two key combinations. Is there anything like this available in Logos?

I don’t have my computer in front of me, but I believe the short cut is shift plus command plus E. He only problem is it seems to be hit or miss in which applications it works in.

Command+Shift+E should work with Microsoft Word out of the box.

For Pages, CMD+SHIFT+E is already used by the Equation Editor.

No worries, though. Here's how you change it.

    1. Go to System Settings.

    2. Go to Keyboard.

    3. Click on Keyboard Shortcuts.

    4. Click on App Shortcuts, then the Plus sign.

    .

    5. Click on All Applications and choose Pages from the list.

    6. Type "Replace with Logos (Passage)" in the Menu Title field. The spelling has to be exactly right or the shortcut won't work

    7. Click in the Keyboard Shortcut field and press COMMAND+SHIFT+E.

    8. Click Done.

Create another shortcut for Equation Editor, and give it COMMAND+OPTION+SHIFT+E as a shortcut.

    Test it in Pages.

    Two more things.

First, the format of the verse is determined by Logos. While in Logos, press OPTION+COMMAND+B to bring up the Copy Bible Verses panel. The format I use is titled "Oration:One Paragraph (2)". You can click on that title and choose another pre-existing format, or create your own.

You can be fairly free in how you type a reference to replace; you don't have to type a proper or presentable reference (this is true in Logos as well).

It's early for me, so I sure hope all that works and helps!

WOW! Thank you for this detailed response. I have this same issue (also coming from Accordance) and absolutely love the shortcut feature. Sadly, I was not able to get this working in LibreOffice. My current workaround, is keep Accordance open in the background, and use that shortcut, but I would love to figure this out for Logos.

I'm accustomed to typing in my word processor, pressing a keyboard shortcut, having a window pop up, typing in the verse reference, pressing return, and it is automatically pasted into my word processor. My hands never leave the keyboard. That is efficient! I find it cumbersome to touch the mouse while typing a document.

I tried the awesome detailed response above, and even closed LibreOffice, and Logos, and re-opened them, but sadly, it doesn't work for me.

I tested it on Notes in Mac, and it worked as expected. It is a little different, but an easy workflow. Type the reference, select it (with keyboard shift-arrow keys) and then the shortcut cmd-shift-E and it worked like a charm. So apparently I need to find the right setting for LibreOffice.

I checked all the settings in LibreOffice, and it doesn't have a way to customize any shortcuts in the app. They are all specified by Mac System Settings.

I can use Command-Shift J the copy box for Logos does pop up, and I type in the reference, but I have to click the copy and paste button to get it into LibreOffice.  This appears to be working, I wish I could tab over to the copy and paste button, and hit return. Any help on that would be appreciated.

I cannot use the Command-Shift E with LibreOffice, though it does work with other apps (Notes and others) on the Mac, so it is configured and setup, but doesn't play nice with LibreOffice. If anyone knows a trick to get this working, that would be awesome. I looked all through the LO settings, but didn't see any way to fix this.

Hopefully someone will stumble across this and know how to fix it!

    Hi Shane

Just out of interest - if you are using MacOS why not give Pages a chance?

With the correct 'Service' enabled cmd+shift+E seems to work for me

Fair question. I have been using OpenOffice/LibreOffice for years, and have 20+ years of outlines in their format. I have used Pages, and have some outlines in it’s format, but LO is my office suite for spreadsheets and documents.
