Is there a such thing as label search,
Yes - as below
Please provide screenshots to show the details of the labels you have created and an example of the search you are trying
Or - to check it further and for Logos to generate the search for you:
- RIght-click on a piece of text containing a label
- Select the label on the left side of the context menu
- Run a Bible search

See https://wiki.logos.com/New_Search_HELP#Label_Searches and note the section for User Labels (ones you create).

Hi Graham...
on a related point to this - when I search for a user label created as a highlighting style it brings up the passages I have highlighted with the label no problem.
But when I do an "all" search... it doesn't bring up Notes that i have added this label to? Is there something I am missing?
And can labels be fully searchable on mobile?
thanks,
Sam

It doesn't bring up the notes - but it should bring up the passages in books that you have added the labels to. Are you seeing this?
And can labels be fully searchable on mobile?
I don't believe they are at the moment.

No Graham it doesn't bring it up at all in an "All" search - not even the reference.

I have Notes with the label "Elders" in them. Some "Elders label" have the attributes of "Purpose" and "value" of leaders.
I have not found a way using Search to have my verses or my notes appear when I try to search for label:Elders. I tried All, Bible, Books, Morph, Docs. No results.
What am I doing wrong?
xn = Christan man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".

label:Elders should produce results
Here I created a label called Ruler in a note and label:Ruler produces results
Also label:(ruler AND rank:watchers) will find this specific label.
The abbreviated format ruler:rank:watchers is not recognised for user created labels, but you can use label.ruler:rank:watchers i.e. label followed by a period/stop.

My labels have brackets in them...would that be a factor as to why notes with labels are not being found on the search?

I have tried to recreate what you have done Dave and I am not getting any search results.
You need to use a note by highlight rather than a note by reference (as shown in your screenshot).

yes that worked Dave - thankyou very much.
Although not anchoring it to the reference means that it won't show up in other versions on mobile which perhaps limits its use.
thanks again,
Sam

Can you post a screen shot of your definition of the label from the highlighting palette?
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Not sure how to do that..... I don't use highlights.... I do have a Note with a label as shown.... may have to scroll down....
So, I open Search type in Label:Elders and get nothing.....

I have not used Labels in Notes yet because, despite spending time reading about it (Dave's help before and wiki etc), I couldn't truly comprehend the unique use cases for Label - i.e., where Labels are better to use compared to Tags.
If I understood Dave, for a Label search on Notes to show up, the Note should be based on Selection rather than verse reference. To me, that limits the attractiveness of Labels because Tags can be used in Notes whether it is by Selection or by Reference,
xnman: Why not use Tags exclusively? In your case, why not use Elders-Purpose and Elders-Value (or Elders-Purpose-Value depending on what hierarchy you have in mind). Then you can create Notes using references and search using Tags. As far as I know, there is no limit to the number of tags. I'm already at 500+. If my understanding is correct, searching mytag:Elders would bring up Notes on Elders-Purpose and Elders-Value. But if you want to limit the search output to just Notes with Elders-Purpose, then do search on mytag:Elders-Purpose.

I agree, so we should support the suggestion to allow-labels-to-be-added-to-reference-anchors!
And there are already some suggestions for a Label facet to more easily find them in the Notes tool:-

hi Dave,
had read through the wiki pages but couldn't make sense of it in regards matching parts of labels. It seemed to describe more labels with different attributes etc.

It seemed to describe more labels with different attributes etc.
The whole purpose of labels is to be able to associate attributes to the text. What are you trying to use a label for? How did you define the label?
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Hi MJ...
I have multiple labels.....some with attributes etc and values....
What my query is if i have a set of basic labels/"sub labels", for example...
Doctrine-Salvation-Redemption
Doctrine-Salvation-Justification etc
How do I do a search for every label that, for example, has "Doctrine" included "Doctrine-Salvation"? Is there a simple way to do it rather than having to use the OR syntax and type/paste each one in??
thanks
Sam

Unfortunately, the concept of "sub-labels" is not known to me in the Logos context. Are you possibly talking about tags? With tags you can have partial matches and do something similar to what you are trying to do.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

no I use tags as well, but labels are useful for marking up the text visually - my limited understanding is that you cannot see tags visually within the text, just on the notes.
ok forget the terminology sub label!
If I have the three labels below is there a way to find occurrences of them all easily in one search?
Doctrine
Doctrine-Salvation
Doctrine-Salvation-Propitiation
thanks again.

No, I know of no way to use a partial match on a label name. What I would have done for this sort of problem is create a custom palette with the tags but that only works with a limited number of tags. The custom palette can be applied either through manual highlighting or by a visual filter.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Doctrine-Salvation

Your three labels are three Highlight styles if you created them via the Highlighting tool. If you added the labels via the Notes tool, then you have the highlight style of the note/highlight to which they were applied. Either way you lost the ability to find occurrences of them in one search because you were thinking of labels as Tags. If you had done the latter, your Search would be mytag:doctrine. And mytag:doctrine-salvation would find occurrences of the Salvation subcategory.
If you created a single Doctrine label with an attribute of Salvation, you could search for label:doctrine and label.doctrine:salvation:* (where the latter would find all values of Salvation, including Propitiation).

Hi MJ/Dave,
thankyou both for your responses. Just clarifying is there any way to visibly display attributes automatically with the label - i know they appear as you hover over them. Haven't seen this referred to anywhere in articles.
thanks,
Sam
