Allowing two-radical Hebrew roots or one-letter Greek words in a morph search

On several occasions, I have tried to do a morph search, using the common Hebrew word שֵׁם. However, the morphological tag becomes available to select when there are three radicals. While this is workable for most roots, some of the most basic words in Hebrew only have two radicals (אח, אם, אב, etc.). Without being able to tag it on the software, it doesn't actually search.

In tagging Greek words, the morph search does allow for two-letter words, and options appear once one has typed in two letters. However, if someone wanted to write a one letter word (e.g., ἤ or ὁ), then it wouldn't search. Is there a way that this gap could be solved?

    What platform are you having the issue on? lemma.h:שֵׁם.1@NC-SC- seems to work for me. can you provide a screen shot (use paperclip to attach) illustrating the problem?

    Here's the screenshot of what I'm trying do do. For some reason, it doesn't tag like it did for yours. Any suggestions?

    It's not working because the text you have specified is not a valid lemma, whereas MJ is specifying a valid root. Perhaps what you want is this lemma? lemma.h:שֵׁם.1

    If you put that in, then it will let you pick the morphology. Or maybe you are actually looking to use the root, which would be: root.h:שֵׁם.1

    I have tried to put that code into the morph search; however, unless there are three radicals, I don't seem to be able to get it to snap onto the searchable lexemes. I've used this function many times for three-root words and have been able to copy two-radical codes itno the morph search; however, I've not had any joy in trying to type it in myself. I typed in the code that you gave,e and it didn't come up with anything.

    My apologies, but I'm not entirely clear on what you are trying to accomplish. Part of the problem might be that I'm not actually familiar with Hebrew.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong:

    You want to type שֵׁם and have it suggest lemmas for you to select, but it is only suggesting roots?

    If you type lemma.h:שֵׁם does it show you the expected list of suggestions?

    Or is the problem that you want to enter the lemma and then get a list of morphologies? If that is the case, then you should be able to enter lemma.h:שֵׁם.1 and then add the  symbol which tells it to open the morphology builder.

    Yes, I don't have a problem in utilising two-radical roots (thus the code root:שֵׁם works for me, and the list of possible tags show up as in your first screenshot). However, when it comes to two-radical lemmas, the list of possible tags (as shown in your second screenshot) don't appear for me until I have added three radicals. Without this list appearing, entering the correct word (with the correct vowels) doesn't actually give any results (as shown on my screenshots earlier on). I'm wondering whether this is a glitch in my Logos application unless I'm simply just missing something.

    I never type the 1 in  ... I type the lemma and select the lemma 1 ... or I copy and paste a whole search argument. When I tried typing the 1 in, I did not get the selection drop down ... I assume because there was one and only one option. If I omitted the 1, I got the drop down selection. Is that what you are seeing?

    If I copy and paste lemma.h:שֵׁם.1 and hit enter, I get results even though I didn't go through the drop down selection menu. I get results without regard to the position of my cursor i.e. tested for Hebrew direction of writing creating issues.

    Yeah, I never type the numbers in either--just lemma:שׁם (or any other Greek/Hebrew word) as on this screenshot. I'm rather puzzled that the list of options appears for others when they type the same thing that I am doing!

    Thanks for the follow up information. I asked the search team about this, and this is done intentionally for performance reasons. If what you have typed results in too many lemma suggestions, then the lemmas are not displayed at all. I believe the plan is also to have the root entries hidden as well.

    You can work around this limitation by prefixing the Hebrew characters with lemma.h: (or the Greek with lemma.g:).

    Without being able to tag it on the software, it doesn't actually search.

    Thanks for reporting this problem. I've asked the team to try and ensure that we always suggest exact lemma matches.
