While I consider the "inductive" in the name "inductive Bible study" to be misleading -- don't bother to try to convince me that it is accurate, I will admit that it is a reaction to an abuse of the "deductive" method starting with things other than scripture. I will also agree that what goes by the name of "inductive Bible study" is a foundational method of reading scripture although I tend to use it under the name of "close reading" as it is called in literary criticism. OIA, SOAP, WORD, DISCOVERY, GRASPS, ACTS, FOCUS, WISE-UP, SPECK, PRAY, REAP, SOAPS, CROSS, COAT, GROW, SPACE, FIRE, SPACE, PEACE, FLAME ... yes, I have been looking ...
- Do you know of a version that specifically works on teaching you to broaden what you observe?
- Do you know of a version that specifically works on identifying what you read into the text that is not actually there? (This is the most common exegetical error I see.)
And just for fun, do you know any additional inductive Bible study methods known by an acronym? I was just starting to have fun.
