    Nope. It's a modern concept.

Search for "anointed." True leadership was God-appointed. In that vein, there's a discussion about a true leader in Jn 18:36-37.

Conversely, false prophet = not an authentic leader. Again, it all comes down to the issue of power.

So I guess my question is this. How can I find something to study within authentic leadership from a biblical, theological or historical perspective that contributes to the field and body of knowledge in the scholarship?

So I guess my question is this. How can I find something to study within authentic leadership from a biblical, theological or historical perspective that contributes to the field and body of knowledge in the scholarship?

Do you know how to search for "anointed" in the OT, and "Christ" in the NT?

Do you have any commentaries to provided comment on the verses you find?

Can you find "false prophet"? (Hint: include the quote marks in your search.)

Can you compare the passages on a God-appointed leader (anointed) versus a false prophet?

Can you find the passage where Jesus spoke to Pilate about being the true king? (Hint: check my previous reply.) Is that related to your topic of "authentic leader"? How did Jesus embody the truth of that leadership position? What does the cross have to do with it? Do you have any commentaries that couldl help on this passage?

If you need a single book recommendation:

There are all kinds of teachings about church leadership today. But in a world of many different doctrines and teachings, it is up to you to find the truth about leaders in the New Testament church that Jesus built....

    I propose the following:

    1. There were apostles directly picked by Jesus... Mat 10:2. These men, minus Judas who was replaced by Mitthias, Act 1:26, along with Saul of Tarsus, renamed to Paul, Act 9:14-17, were the first leaders in the church that Jesus built.

    2. But then we see a transition from apostles to elders. Notice Acts 15:1-4... This shows the apostles did not answer the question of circumcism by themselves... but went back to Jerusalem, whereby they met with the apostles and elders to settle the question. Thus showing that a transition from apostles to elders was in progress.

    3. Then we have the qualifications for elders (also called shepherds, overseers, and bishops) in 1Ti 3:1-8 and Titus 1:5-9.  These men are to lead the church today.

A good study of the words "bishop, shepherd, elders, overseers" will bring this info out.

Some of excellent books I would recommend about church leadership are by Alexander Strauch:

    1. Alexander Strauch Church Leadership Series (8 vols.)

    2. The Biblical Eldership Discussion Guide

    3, Agape Leadership

    4. The Study Guide to Biblical Eldership: Twelve Lessons for Mentoring Elders

    5. The Mentor's Guide to Biblical Eldership: Twelve Lessons for Mentoring Elders

    6. The Biblical Eldership Booklet
