What needs to be considered when buying a tablet to run Logos?

The big decision is whether you want to run the full desktop app or the mobile app. If the former, you'll need to get a Surface Pro tablet from Microsoft or another manufacturer that makes tablets to run Windows. Another decision point if you choose this type of tablet is the size of your Logos library to make sure you get a large enough SSD that will fit your library.

But if you only want to run the mobile app, then you have to decide between an Apple iPad or Android tablet.

I take all of Bill's comments.

From a practical point of view I would also consider...

Do I want built in cellular connectivity? I don't have that in my tablet as I am able to easily connect to the Cellular on my phone.

Am I often in areas where I need my full library but do not have access to either cellular or WiFi. (How often is an emergency commentary reference required in these circumstances?) Bill's point about adequate memory.

Will a combination of the Web App and the Mobile App be enough or will I need to run the full desktop app. If the latter then a laptop is the more logical choice.

Bill and Mike, thanks for the quick replies. I think I'll go for Android. I'm pretty happy with the mobile app on my phone.

How much main memory do I need for the table? for the SD card?

I am not an android user, so you will have to take my comments with a grain of salt.

I do not reccomend users with large libraries to download their entire library. Unless you are a missionary in the middle of nowhere, with internet only every couple months, there is no compelling reason to download everything... and there is a complelling reason not to do so.

    • Many features of the app require internet. If you have internet for those features, you will be able to access other books as well.
    • The app is prone to corruption, and more downloads make that more likely.
    • The best fix for some issues is to delete and redownload the app. On iOS, that means redownloading ALL the resources you had previously downloaded. This can be time consuming and making it harder to get back "up and running."

I reccomend downloading a curated list of books. Anything you are reading now cover to cover, download. Download some key translations, study bibles, one volume commentaries, and any other "go to" resources.

WIth that said, the issue becomes more about what OTHER things you will using with the device. My iPhone, for example, has over 40 gigs of photos... and 20 gigs of music. A 64 GB phone wouldnt cut it.

My iPad has 64 GB on it, which includes about 10 GB of movies / tv shows for when I travel. My logos installation is 1.64 GB. The device has about 17 GB free.

Are your other needs closer to my phone usage or my iPad one?

I use the mobile app on my android phone. The latest update is an improvement, but made it slower. I'll follow your suggestion and delete and reinstall the app.

I only have 14 books downloaded. I would probably double that for an upcoming two-week trip.

    Thanks for your advice.

No worries there. I am really speaking towards libraries of many hundreds or thousands. 100 books would even be reasonable to download.
