Heart's desire as an idol
I am looking to find the times in the Bible when one's heart has became an idol. Any search queries possible? I tried these searches.

And don't be bashful to toss a question like that into ChatGPT/BARD just to see if any summary or direction pops out. The results can help you tune the wording for comprehensive and trustworthy results from LOGOS.

Christian (not that you're going to return to this thread), a good resource for exploring biblical teaching on specific topics is The Dictionary of Bible Themes. It doesn't have everything, but it is a very good starting point for many topics. If you don't already have it, it is available in a lot of the lower level legacy libraries for cheap.
You are not getting results in your Bible searches because this is primarily a modern interpretation by people living in cultures where genuine idolatry is rare who, therefore, are attempting to make a relevant application of the Bible's teaching on the subject. It is a derivative (and, in my view, quite often a stretch) rather than direct teaching.

The search is interesting. From Lightfoot quoting the Talmud (odd capitalization), versus 1 Co 8:10
“If he supposeth the idol-temple to be the synagogue, and adore an idol, חרי לבו, לשמים behold, his heart is towards God. אלא דתזא אנדרטא But if he see a statue and adore it, if he take it for God he is guilty, מזיד as doing presumptuously. But if he takes it not for God, לא כלום הוא it is nothing at all.”
Without doing any research, it appears the logic coming out of post-Jeremiah, is idols only if you think idols. But agree, 'desire' a more modern concept.

Thank you Sean for your response. This is a good idea. I never thought about it being a theme.

You are welcome, Christian. That book is a very good resource. It's one of my most frequently used, and I have it open in most of my layouts.
