subject:"Church History" results in 4 books in collections and 96 results in library

subject: "Church History" (space after colon) results in 4 books in collections and 21 results in library

The library sidebar offer 75 results in 'Church history' and 1 result in 'Church History'

long story short I can't get my collection to work effectively for me.

Any ideas?

Well I can explain the discrepancy in your library.

subject:"Church History" (no spaces) matches all books with the subject "Church History".

subject: "Church History" (space after colon) is two terms - searching for books matching BOTH "subject" (as the colon is ignored) AND the term "Church History".

Search on a library filter with just subject (no quotes, no spaces). It will return books in your library where the word 'subject' is mentioned. You may have to look, but for example it may be in the Information Pane's description of the book (press the 'i' in the top right corner of the library window to see Information).

Are only 4 of those books downloaded? The Collections panel currently only displays locally downloaded books. The reason for this is that currently almost all places in the application that use Collections only support downloaded books.

This is not the time or place (smiling), but collections is the dinosaur of Logos. Needs updating (ease of use in libraries, knowing which works at each point (tags vs collections), etc

    Ok, I'm quiet.

Rule of thumb - In Logos you NEVER want a space following a colon when a keyword is involved.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Are you trying to create a collection with the rule as you described there? The correct collection rule should be subject:"Church History" (no space). If you put a space it treats those as two separate terms with an implied AND between them.

Let's try to help you figure out why your Collections tab is giving you a different number of results than your Library is for the exact same criterion.

Open the Collections tab and click New to start a fresh collection. Paste subject:"Church History" into the Rule box. Take a screenshot of what you see (including the Rule and number of books in the Resulting Collection) and attach it here. Now do the same in your Library. I get the identical results in both places, and unless something really weird is going on, you should too.

As Andrew stated, the Collections tab will only list downloaded books. Library includes books in the Cloud (Devices > Not on this device).

You can download the missing books from Devices > Not on this device, or you can use a temporary collection when you Search i.e. type subject:"Church History" in the resources box.
