Convert Kindle books to Logos?

Kindle has a copy limit that varies by publisher. Typical is 10%.
It violates the amazon kindle policy to copy whole kindle books.

Jan, did you ever get the auto-scroll feature working? This would help so much.
Never to the level that I had wanted to.
But re-examining this application is on my to-do list for this year. Maybe I find the solution now after such a long break (much longer than expected / planned).

I have found the only way to get definite answers- contact the publisher- I have on approximately 400 titles- you may pay a fee ranging from $4-10 dollars, and I have actually been furnished PDF, RTF or Docx files in 30% of the cases, you have to ask.
I do have a program to convert Kindle to Word by copy / paste- but have found its just easier to take a few extra steps. Just so you know some will just say "NON!!" but that's life.

What do you ask them when you contact them? Specifically if they offer a PDF/DOCX version of the book?
Any insight into which publishers are more likely to offer this vs. ones that aren’t in your experience?

Yes just ask them if they offer a downloadable version or if they can send it.
This is a process basically, usually when you contact them it will depend on the book, different books, different people. They will sometimes know immediately, about 30% of the time, or they will start a process by which you get permission, and pay. However it goes make sure "you" remain faithful to the agreement, this is a legal and binding transaction. I have gotten permission from Baker, AMG, and numerous less known publishers. To be honest it's probably going to depend on the book and what's happening between publisher and author- they will not jeopardize that relationship.
Ask Logos to see if someone there has a contact with a particular publisher for books they are not involved with.

As i understand it, I have to copy one chapter at a time?

Nope. As I understand it, that's the way it works. For me, it doesn't just automatically do one chapter at a time. It does about 7-10 pages at a time. It tends to overlap and repeat content, which you then have to go back and edit. The final product required hours of editing, and I still couldn't get it right. I'm hoping for the automatic version.

I have been using program again and found highlighting and copying 4-5 paragraphs at a time works best do very little if any editing- except to format to my liking.

Thank you so much for this! I have a few books that I have wanted to import into my LOGOS but had been unable to get around the DRM, have tried a few ways, but no joy. This worked like a dream. Have shared your page as well as this tread with others who may be able/willing to work with you get get the Mac version for those who have requested it. May God richly Bless you. Thank you again

Is this still working? I just tried it and Kindle says to use a supported browser. Thank you.

Sadly, no. That tool is based on Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported to display Kindle books.
Maybe I'll look into creating a new tool based on a different browser later this year or next year, but currently time doesn't permit making that a priority.

You can use Calibre and the plug in avail here https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/2012/09/10/drm-removal-tools-for-ebooks/ to convert almost all ebooks for Logos.

Yes, it's based on Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported by Kindle...
I'll remove the download shortly, and if I ever find the time to make a new tool with a new browser, I'll announce that here...

I went out to the link and it says that it won't work with explorer and there isn't Edge version. Do you know when that could be available?
Thanks

Hi Adam:
I can't help you with that procedure, but if you don't mind packing a lunch, I have some lengthy (one-time setup) instructions that I can send you to help format-shift your Kindle books. After the setup, the conversions are quick and frequently with very good results. Send me an email (see my Faithlife profile; click on my name above), Subject: 'Kindle Conversion'.
