Lexicons and using them

Sakae Kubo's Reader's Greek-English Lexicon was a must-have at seminary for developing my abilities in reading Greek texts. BDAG and LSJ were never utilized. We relied on Thayer's or Strong's. I wanted to improve, so I started experimenting with LSJ as that is all I could afford. Well I have 60$ and wanted to use my birthday coupon on some Greek materials. Any thoughts?

Well, it gives me many thoughts about the quality of the education. I have a great deal of respect for what Strong achieved; I have no use for his resources being taught to new Greek student's post-computer language literacy. If you are a serious student you absolutely must use the tools of a serious student ... or in the case of a particular Chinese professor who carried around a rather dated and very basic Chinese-English dictionary, have a great self-deprecating sense of humor. Get BDAG to move yourself up several notches.

I agree, but please take your time & learn how to read it, I saw a guy the other day using the wrong Greek meaning with the scripture verse was cleary marked out.

Yeah, BDAG (3rd edition) is the gold standard lexicon. I expect my lecturers would fail any exegesis essay I submitted if I didn't use it! If you can afford it, get it, if you can't, save up!

There are also some good resources out there to help you learn how to use it in logos.
