Another Useless Suggestion: Enough Ibid-ism in Digital Resources

Ok, maybe there was one useless suggestion. Years (and years) ago.

But reading in Logos (which is great) has to deal with ibids and more ibids. Who? When did the latest ibid change??

Yes, one can switch to 1-column view to better track back the ibids.

OR ... the digital software, could in very unreadably grey, very tiny text, show the source of the ibid.

Yes, it's not in the original. But quite often Logos shows the abbreviated book in the popup.

OK. Back to useful suggestions.

Who reads the footnotes anyway?

This would be a good idea. I've come across this issue not only in Logos but even reading Kindle books.

However, I imagine it would take a good bit of tinkering with the code, even if running scripts to do it.

Rosie, thanks for the screenshot. It's good for a laugh! I, for one, read the introduction and the preface and the foreword and the footnotes and whatever else the author has chosen to include with the published work. It's amazing what you can pick up and learn when you do!

And yes, DMB, tracking the ibids can be tedious. Such is the nature of a published work that properly cites its sources. I guess the extent of the challenge depends on whether one is reading through or dropping in to someplace in the middle of the work. And yes, I agree that it would be of great value in electronic editions if the publisher, Faithlife in this case, would provide some assistance in doing so.

That thought consumed me for several seconds. I'm currently in Origen and Scripture and the author has ibid-itis. He could have just provided a full copy of the book he's thrilled with.

But to prevent auto-ibid-ization-ing, he randomly has footnotes that mention another author (invisible ibid), and a page number, but not the book.

OK. No introductions, and no footnotes either (although I do get tired of the intro that is long-hand for the table of contents).
