Problems with Copy Bible Verse

I have recently encountered an ongoing problem trying to load multiple Bible verses into Copy Bible Verse. For example, today I attempted to load Deut 33:19; Ps 51:16-17, 19 (exactly as I just typed it). However, upon hitting "enter," it would only generate Deuteronomy 33:19. I tried multiple ways, but it would never generate the passage from Psalms. I had to copy and paste Deut and then go back and input the Psalms passage. Anyone experiencing this?

No problems here. Copy and pasted yours and tried my own. In my experience, however, getting Logos to recognize a Psalms reference can sometimes be tricky - especially in the Sermon Builder.

    Joey,
no problem here either, see screenshot

Note, in the reference box, the abbreviations for Deut and Ps were automatically expanded when hitting the Enter key.

What language are you using for Logos (set in Program settings)? Depending on that, the separators between chapter and verse, etc may vary.
What CBV settings did you try to use? Mine above used Copy Fully formatted from ESV to Microsoft Word

I am seeing a problem that sounds similar but I haven't looked too closely at it as yet

I am seeing this on Mac - what platform are you running Logos on?

I also can't replicate this on Mac or Windows when on version v26.0.21. What version are you running Logos on? I've attached a video of my attempted repro, but happy to try other routes if you spot anything different you did in your approach.

It is very intermittent for me - I did see this in v26 but currently running 27.0 beta 1 on Mac

In this last instance I had entered a couple of passges but didn't get the dropdown to select it

But if I simply add a space at the end (I think any character will do) the dropdown appears

Thank you all so much for your replies and attempts to replicate the problem. Right now, I am trying to look up Deut 33:19 along with Psalms 51:16-17 (I enter it like this: Deut 33:19; Ps 51.16-17) when I hit enter, it generates Deut 34 - the entire chapter! I've tried clearing and re-entering, but it does the same thing.

Joey, are you able to upload a video of you attempting this? I'll write up a case, so no rush on this, just curious what you are seeing which might help our developers pin point the issue. I use the extension Record it, some folks use loom, but if its doable feel free to attach it using the clip icon in your next reply.

Either way, I'll have a case written for us to investigate. Apology for the disruption on your workflow.

I got very excited to see the latest update with the message that the Copy and Paste issue had been fixed. Unfortunately, I experienced the same problem a few minutes ago. I was attempting to load a verse (2Tim 2:18). When I hit "enter," nothing happened. The verse was highlighted in the search box. When I deleted the verse (so that I could re-enter the text), it generated 2 Tim 1 (the entire chapter). I then had to delete it and re-enter my text (which then generated). This is the exact same problem I was having prior to the update.

    Joey,
there seems to be a problem with the Logos app language set in program settings and how it recognizes or doesn't recognize the Bible reference as you enter it in the reference field in the CBV tool.  Please note, it makes a difference how the reference is entered (2Tim 2:18 / 2 Tim 2,18 / etc) and how Logos then recognizes and interprets it.

I use Logos at times with language set to English, other times with language set  to German. Entering a scripture reference as "2Tim 2,18"  with German (note the "," between chapter and verse), the one verse 18 in chapter 2 is correctly displayed.
However, if my language is set to English and I enter the same "2 Tim 2,18" the reference is automatically changed to "2 Tim 1; 4", the whole chapter 2 displayed (from the 2 before the comma) and then the whole of chapter 4 is displayed (because there is no chapter 18 in 2 Tim. and instead the last chapter of 2 Tim is used).

Could you detail the steps you take when trying to use the CBV  tool? Are you entering the scripture reference in the CBV tool directly? or did you link your Bible (for example via Linkset A) and the CBV tool by which the scripture reference in CBV follows the Bible and is taken automatically via the linkset?   Could you provide a screenshot which may help to ascertain what is going on?

    Hi Wolfgang,

I always enter the Bible reference directly. Since my post this morning, I have experienced the same situation 3 more times. Here is a scenario: I enter John 3.16 into the search bar and hit enter. John 3:16 is highlighted, but nothing happens - even if I click enter multiple times! I then delete John 3:16 and as soon I type "J" (for John), it generates all of John 3. I then delete John 3 and retype John 3.16 and it usually will generate. I have found a hack that works (most of the time). If the verse doesn't generate, I can click the space bar and it comes up. I have no idea why and I can't remember how I discovered it, probably out of frustration! As for screenshots, I have submitted numerous screen recordings to Logos support. I'm not sure it has helped.

what happens if you do the following:

    • close all panels to get an empty workspace
    • open your preferred Bible on the left
    • open the CBV tool on the right
    • link the two panels via a linkset
    • in your Bible (!) > enter e.g. Gen 2:4 ... what happens in CBV tool? does it jump to Gen 2:4 and display it in the preview?
      image
    • in your Bible > go to Rev 3:1-5 ... what happens in CBV? does it jump to Rev 3:1-5 and display that section?
      image

When you enter a scripture reference in the reference box, do you hit "enter" immediately? or do you wait until the scripture reference is actually shown in the suggestion drop down list and then hit "enter"?

I would hope that you'll get more support and a solution from Logos support seeing that you sent screen recordings to them. Since you haven't posted a screenshot to the forum, I am only guessing without any good idea what your scenario actually looks like.
