Is there a limit to how much copy-and-paste is allowed from a given commentary?

In a single copy, yes. It's to stay within the fair use copyright law.

This information can often be found in the Introduction to a publication. eg
All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means—electronic, mechanical, photocopy, recording or any other—except for brief quotations in printed reviews, without the prior written permission of the publisher.

However not withstanding this prohibition there is the concept of 'fair use' which will usually allow short quotes for illustrative purposes. Fair use will depend on which jurisdiction you are in. A search engine query on 'Copyright Fair Use [country]' should give you the info.
A 'Duck Duck Go' search for 'Copyright Fair Use England' produced the official line...
