What's coming soon in 4.0c

Logos version 4.0c has just been made available as a release candidate. This means the team are reasonably sure they've got rid of all the bugs, and the final release is only a week or so away. I'll put together a video showing the new features soon, but here's what you can look forward to:
Main Highlights
- Passage Lists (was Verse Lists in Logos 3). As the name implies, you can create lists of Bible passages for future use.
Passages can be added to a list manually, by selecting text which includes Bible references in a resource, or from search results. - Passage Lists saved from a single Bible Search will display the content
from that Bible. Passage Lists saved from a multiple Bible Search will
display the content from the first three Bibles searched. - Import Logos 3 Passage Lists (Verse Lists) using the Import
Passage Lists or Import All commands.
RVR60, and LAKEAF. This feature requires new versions of the underlying
resources (that means a big download after you install 4.0c).
All Text (Search Fields) drop-down in Basic/Bible/Morph Search
panels allows you to choose available data type reference, highlight,
etc. to constrain a search.
NIV Reverse-Interlinear (NT only at the moment)
Other features
Clippings
Clippings will now use the Notes font setting as its default
font.
Save as Passage List added to Clippings
document panel menu.
Highlighting
Shortcut key chooser added to Highlighting context menu.
Label Text highlighting can now be applied Above
and Below text, in addition to Before and After text.
Added “Automatic” to the text color palettes in the Highlighting edit
style panel.
Home Page
Added Library Slideshow to homepage, with “Next” and “Previous” buttons and a transition animation.
Notes
Added a “Compact View” button to Notes document toolbar.
Clicking it will collapse or expand the Content of notes, essentially
providing a list of note titles.
Save as Passage List added to Notes document
panel menu.
Sort button has been added to the Notes document
toolbar, next to ‘Compact View’. Clicking this will sort notes by
reference.
Passage Guide
Passage Guide topics section now has 3 available views (Tags,
Cloud, and List).
Program Settings
Added Swedish UI Language choice. (To change UI
in Command box, enter uilang sv.)
3 new fonts, and updates to 3 existing fonts. Installing them requires administrative privileges.
Resource Panels
Next/Previous verse navigation in resources is now more
intuitive.
Search
Added Save as Passage List to Panel Menu.
The number of Resources has been added to the results count in Basic and
Bible Search results. (E.g., “179 results in 171 verses in 1 resource”
or “26,676 results in 11,986 articles in 389 resources.”)
Added titles to separators on passage range selector in Search panel and
on resource selectors in some documents, guides, tools, and resources
(e.g., Bible harmonies).
Self tests
Self tests. Requires resources and licenses
that use this feature (e.g. AM
Bible Courseware)
Text Comparison
Instant Compare (F7) now works with current milestone in a
non-Bible (such as a commentary), or when hovering over a Bible
reference in a non-Bible.

Like Marks says above ... [:)]
HOWEVER, it might be worth reminding users that some features are missing in the lower-priced Library sets. Its the Bible Reverse Interliners I'm mostly thinking about here.
See http://www.logos.com/comparison to check.

As always, Mark, thanks for your clear explanation. One question: I have assigned shortcut keys in the Highlight feature, but how do I use them? I've tried numerous key combinations within and outside of the Highlight panel in attempts to "select" them.

Hi Tim. I'm not Mark but I thought to answer your question.
Let's say you assigned the letter "a" to one of your highlights. Now, in any text that you've selected...just type the "a" key and the highlight (that you assigned the "a" key to) should be applied.
Not sure if I can embed a short video but here goes: Highlight

Hey, thanks, Mitch. That's too easy; I'm used to multiple keys. Besides, the application is somewhat delayed, which means that when I attempted to highlight by simply pressing the assigned key, I tried another option before the highlighting had time to appear!

Mark (or anyone else), Anything here that really grabs you? Some of the features I don't understand, so they don't excite me much. Looking forward to your videos to help explain. I enjoy your videos.

Since I've had an answer on this topic, I'd be delighted to comment. I'm particularly excited by the addition of the NIV reverse interlinear as well as the "full screen" interlinear function. These are major inclusions. The drop-down search fields is very helpful. Most of all--and for my convenience--I am very pleased to have shortcut keys for highlighting. This is a major time-saving feature for me, one that will enable me to utilize highlighting much more than I have in 4.0a and b.

Thanks Mark for the summary, and like many I am waiting for another of your excellent videos! I have been using the beta for awhile but I always learn something new watching you use the product in a video!
To throw my .02 in for Roger, I really like having the Search fields in search. For example, it's so easy now to do a Bible search in ESV just using The Words of Christ! Any search fields the resource has, you can search them separately or in some combination now.
It's a small thing, but the slide show of resources on the home page is very cool. I just watch it for awhile to see if it inspires me to go look at something I have not looked at for awhile. Nice little touch it is!
I also like being able to select a section of text and have it automatically parse and drop it into a Passage Guide for further study. That's a real time saver.
A few of the features I am looking forward to Mark's video to see how they are used, but these are my favorites so far!
I am excited about the full screen interlinear now - I actually found I like the new version 4.0 style at the bottom of the panel better, but having both forms now, there will be less threads wishing the version 3.0 interlinear screen was available in 4.0! [;)]

Yes, Tim that looks like a great feature!

Nice!

I'll have to play around with this...haven't looked at it yet, but that does sound like a time saver.
Thanks guys for your thoughts. Mark always has the best vids. I especially enjoyed his video on how to organize a layout -- I watched it several times. The Notes video is great too!

Hi, Mark.
Regarding the "New 'full screen' Reverse Interlinear display for ESV, KJV 1900, RVR60, and LAKEAF" -
May we assume that the other reverse interlinear translations will all eventually get the "full screen" display, too?
Thanks for the info.

Hmmm...I wonder why my ESV reverse interlinear does not have the inline option. I've updated to the 4c release candidate and about half a gig of resources downloaded and indexed, I realize I am way at the back of the plane (Bible Study package), but my KJV Cambridge has it, and the comparison chart states nothing about different implementations of reverse interlinears among packages; it just states which RIs are in each package.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Sounds like a question for Customer Support.

Robert,
From the Chart (2nd post at the top of this thread) it seems the Home package leaves a lot out, but for Bible Study and up, you get at least some, including ESV.
I've seen where the "Display" button won't come up if the resource downloads and indexing have not finished, but assuming thats all sorted, then like Dave said: Ask Customer Support.

That's odd. I can't confirm it because I've got Portfolio, and the ESV inline works fine for me. I wonder if anyone else reading this has Bible Study and can try it out.
Is the Display dropdown menu completely missing from your ESV?
Here's what it should look like:
Is your ESV's Interlinear panel working? The Interlinear button got changed between 4.0b and 4.0c and now is that icon with the two horizontal lines to the right of the Display menu in the screenshot above.
What is the version number info for your ESV resource (click the 'i' icon on the resource panel and scroll down to the bottom to find it). Mine which is the most up-to-date version, is as follows:
LLS:1.0.710
2010-04-28T18:39:01Z
ESV.logos4RVI:ESVNT
2010-04-28T14:02:55Z
ESVNT.lbsrviRVI:ESVOT
2010-04-28T14:15:18Z
ESVOT.lbsrviThere was a bug at some point during the 4.0c beta cycle where the Display button was missing on some interlinears, but that got fixed rather quickly (in 4.0c Beta 7) and you've got RC1 anyway, so that's probably not it. But here's the thread about that just in case: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/16087.aspx. You might have stumbled upon a regression of that bug in some quirky case that affects you but not me. (Maybe related to what base package you have.)

These were the 1st batch released with the first beta of 4.0c (this is a cut n' past from those release notes). I don't know of any RIs that don't have the option for a "full screen" display. If you notice, Mark's video used the NIV to demonstrate this feature and it's not on the above list.

Yes, Kevin is right. I did notice that the text was misleading, but by then it was too late to edit my post!

Rosie:
Thanks. Yes, it is completely missing. I'll give a few days to see if it fixes itself (sometimes things do). I might try deleting the resource and re-updating. If it really starts bugging me, I call support.

FWIW, I have Bible Study and just upgraded to 4.0c RC2 and I do have the ESV full interlinear.
