Religious groups

Groups that are differentiated in various ways by geography, class, ethnicity, and other forms of social differentiation have become transformed into "religions" in large part. That is a the single assertion of my paper. I would like to focus the paper into Christianity. How can I search for materials in Logos?

I can't answer that. I was taught via anthropology/sociology/comparative religion that religions (including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism ...) usually begin as a cult among a specific group of disenfranchised people. From that it either expands to a broader group or dies out within a few generations. Those that expand become sects and religions. This pattern fits nicely to movements within Christianity as well as to Christianity itself. Unfortunately, I offended a good friend when I pointed out that her sect was used as a classic example of this dynamic. Oops!

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Was this an assigned topic? If not, it sounds like you are putting the cart in front of the horse. You should have no assertion until you have completed your research. (That is the purpose of research, after all).

It seems to me that your topic is highly technical and resources will be scarce. You may have more luck with journal articles.

I would suggest that you contact your school's library and set up an appointment with a research librarian.

My assignment was “write a 12 page essay explaining how religious groups like Christianity were based on religious sectors and identities.”

This is for an anthropology of religion class.

What are the basic texts for the class ... that would give me a bit of understanding of the expectations.

Look in Encyclopaedias, use Factbook or Topic Guide.
