Edit Subject Headings from Library panel - not PB tool only

Is it just me or this doesn't make sense?

Subject headings are the ones where you can easily make a mistake, or even add more data if you think you want to cover more subjects, and the only way to do so is to re-build the book. Via PB tool. Which works worst than it did in L4 time. Not to mention that PB search engine is non-responsive for the first minute or so.

Why is PB tool such a dinosaur given almost no focus or updates in the last couple of years?

I'm sure it used to work better in L9...now it can only handle one build...then it needs app restarting. Which does synchronising, of settings (why even do this...all settings are locally stored) and then does it once again before starting (which could totally be done in the background without the annoying pop-up screen).

Anyways...any reason PB subject are not editable live from the library window like tags or book series are?

I've not noticed any changes, I still run into the same annoying quirks I always have.

PB updates in the library panel are the same as for purchased books - the subject is metadata provided by the publisher, occassionally modified by Logos, but never updatable by the user.

I know...but library view is allowing me to change Series name of my PB's with no problem...I wonder why not allow editing PB's subject headings there as well.

Now I have to rebuild book everytime I add metadata to it, and knowing how  buged compiler is...it means 2-3 Logos restarts at least.

I still remember I could have rebuilt the book without the restart in between. And I had my source library on OneDrive...image that. I had to wait for the sync in between but it worked.

Because the series name update is already there for all resources and the subject headings update is non-existent for all resources. It's not making any distinction between PB and other resources. You're asking for a new function to be added not for a current function to be broadened.

Not towards the end of L9 but I don't remember when it stopped working again.

And I had my source library on OneDrive...

I still do on the book I am currently building ... you shouldn't be having problems here. What sort of error are you getting?

I do see it as broadening...not to all resources, only to the ones I compile. It's not like it's impossible to add subject headings....but the only way is while compiling. I wonder why it is so. I'm not asking Logos to allow me to edit metadata of all resources in Library view. But why not to PB's I created? Or renaming authors or editing.

The reason it is so is that the publishers are the source of the data for most resources so the initial builds did not make it user updateable. It's not that Logos can't make it updatable but rather that it is not a project that has seen a lot of demand in the forums and feedback site and therefore, it is not given priority and likely is not even in the pipeline. I will admit to being one with other projects I'd rather see Logos spend its resources on. I agree it would be nice, it simply isn't my priority.

Simple solution as already mentioned a few times => restart Logos and then rebuild the PB.
Such is life at this time in regards to using the PBB tool.

Btw, this matter has caused me to be more careful with the editing and proofreading of the docx file(s) before compiling the PB, thus catching things which in the past turned out to often be the cause for a need to rebuild the PB and encountering this error.

Yes, I've been doing that, for sure.

Just feels like I bought a car with AC which you can turn on only if you stop your car first ;-)

    Ok, another idea...

is there a metadate that can be put into PB to add subject?

Like you apparently tag author with:

    Author: {{ field-on:author  }} John Doe{{ field-off:author }}

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to add "Bible. O.T. Jonah--Commentaries." as part of a .docx file.

I know some datasets are shared on the wiki page, but not all are there.

No!. Your {{ field-on:author  }} is a searchable field and is different to the resource metadata you see in Library.

sure! The subject is an optional field in the PB tool that you can fill if you want to:
