trouble with installation...need help

Hello,

I am a soldier planning to attending Bible College next spring. I bought this software after having used Libronix that came with my study bible I purchased . I purchased the Leaders package in DVD format. I recieved the media and I have a PC. I put the installation disc in and got nothing. NO autorun or anything. There is a folder on the disc labeled Logos Bible Soft.app. I dont see a setup file or anything.

How do I install this software? What am I missing?

ANYONE PLEASE help...I would hate to say I wasted 300 dollars.

Did you buy this from a reputable outlet?

At any rate...just open that folder and tell me what files you see...is there one labled something like "Logos4setup.exe" or anything like that?

Dumb question but you DO have a DVD player and not just a CdRom player right?

First of all you didn't waste your money.

It sounds like you either got a media disk, or a defective disk. Or, your computer won't read DVD's only CD's. Ok, that's not an issue since you can see the files on it.

Either way, there is a solution! [y]

If you want to install and Run Logos 3 (L3) or Logos 4 (L4) there are different steps to take.

To install L3:

Follow the directions on http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls
Then you can use your DVD (if it's an L3 DVD) to copy your books onto the hard drive - you'll be asked to do this during the installation process.
Alternatively you can download L3 books via ftp://ftp.logos.com

To install L4:

Download the small installer from http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
Run it and when it's all done, Logos will attempt to download all of your resources after you sign in.
It is possible to use a scan command in the commandbar of the program to copy files from the DVD instead of downloading them.

Thomas, do you know what the difference is between this "small installer" you provided a link to and the other official installer paths that are for the released version and the current beta (including release candidate) respectively?

I was trying to give out some advice to someone who was having trouble getting the 4.0c RC1 and I realized I had no idea which of those installers to recommend using. I figured out it was the last of them, from Melissa's post. But I still don't know what the one is you're recommending using and how it differs.

I don't know the official answer and don't pretent I know, but ...

For interest, I downloaded all three into a temp directory. Lets call them 1, 2 and 3 for each link above:

1) This has an installer version of 4.0.3.4553

2) The file reports a version of 4.2.3.8753

3) The file reports a version of 4.3.3.9292

These are only the versions for the installer that runs. It says NOTHING about the payload that will download and install.

A simple guess would be that (2) is Release, (3) is Beta, and (1) is something old and maybe not a good idea. But I'm only guessing based on the above.

Clearly, there is a danger in running random installers from random urls.

There are lots of links to installer #1 all over the forums. I know we can't do anything about that, but it's disconcerting that the wiki is still directing people to run that installer on two pages:

Thanks, Thomas. I would have done so as well, but since you'd called it the "small installer" I was thinking you knew something more about it than I did so was waiting to see your answer here.

Another beauty of wiki editing, though, is that anyone can roll back the changes since they are all kept track of in the History, so if I'd goofed something up, you could easily have fixed it. But I had other fish to fry at the thime, namely documenting all the morphology codes (still not finished).

Just to confirm that it's unlikely to make a difference whether you install (1) or (2). The files are different, but they both get their 'payload' from the same script. http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4WebScript.lbxdat

So, whilst it's probably better to run the more recent installer, both installers install the same version of Logos.
