Word Frequency
If I want to look at a book or chapter and work out which words occur most frequently, is there a means of doing that in Logos 8? I think I used to be able to do that in Bibleworks. But I would like to be able to check word frequencies through books or sections? Can anyone help? Alan Summers

The Concordance tool does this as does the Important Words section of the passage guide (with a bit of mental effort).
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

If I want to look at a book or chapter and work out which words occur most frequently,
For lemmas, generate a Word List from the Docs menu. Use Add to specify the bible and the reference e.g. Mt 12. The Count column gives the frequency, and you can click the column header to sort it.
It is more accurate to use an original language bible for this.

Dave, I just came across this thread because I had a question about how to determine the frequency of a specific word in the Old Testament such as idol, idolatry graven image, etc.
Can you direct me to a place to start?

Hi Kenneth
Dave, I just came across this thread because I had a question about how to determine the frequency of a specific word in the Old Testament such as idol, idolatry graven image, etc.
Do either a Bible Word Study Guide or a Bible Search give you what you need?

As implied by Graham, you need to decide if you are studying English words in specific bibles or original language words in a Greek or Hebrew bible. A Bible Word Study of "idol" will give you a Hebrew Words section and you can decide, using many different translations. But use the Textual Searches section to get the actual frequency of the (English) word in the bible.

An excellent response as well Dave,
A lot of useful subtleties are possible for the study of topics in Logos.
Thank you,

Just an FYI on terminology that matters only in academic work. Frequency is count per 1000 words or something similar. Searches give counts which the graphing function will convert to frequency.

That is a good point to keep in mind MJ,
Thank you for pointing it out,
