Lynden, it has happened to me a number of times, most recently with Machen's Christianity and Liberalism. Most of the time a tap of the phone's 'back' button will get it back on track.
A related problem I have experienced with all resources (from Day One) using machine 'Read Aloud' on mobile is that it doesn't maintain the previous position if you leave the app and open later. While finding the place where I was in the book is a good way of testing listening comprehension (something I'm working on as being a bit different than reading), it's not the highest and best use of the software.
As you have observed, this doesn't happen with human narration.

Thank you, Lynden. Unfortunately, I'm still not able to repro. Do you notice the issue appearing specifically if the resource is downloaded or not downloaded?

We have a case created for this, Robert.
