Shortcuts question

Hello All,

I have created quite a few shortcuts and they have now outgrown the left hand pane and created a "More Shortcuts" list that holds the overflow from the first list/tab/page. I would like to reorder some on this overflow page/tab by click/drag like I am able to do on the first list/tab/page but that technique doesn't work for me on the second list/tab/page.

Am I missing something here? Or does this click/drag technique only work on the first list/tab/page?

A slightly different approach might be to use the Favorites tool ... it provides options for grouping of links, reordering by drag and drop, etc. (see screenshot with some items listed quickly as an example - note: my app language is set to German)

The Logos Help file has detailed information on the use and possibilities of Favorites.

I did not think of the "Favorites Tool" for this. I will give that a try.

I smiled when I saw your screenshot. I know just enough of the Deutsch language to recognize it when I see it! On my trips to Germany I've managed to survive with the few words I speak/read by the kindness of people helping me translate.

I was once 'trapped' in a parking lot (der flughafen) as I tried to exit and pay. I did not realize the first step was to obtain a token prior to going to the payment area. I was blocking traffic and people got irritated and a very kind lady exited her vehicle and realized that I was struggling with the system and the attendant who spoke less English than I did in German. Even though she did not speak English she recognized my problem and she 'sheperded' me to safety and through hand gestures showed me how to obtain a token to 'escape' the parking area!

It gave me an appreciation for people struggling with a language that is not their native language. If she had not helped me I might still be there blocking traffic! Haha.

At time it was not funny but now I chuckle every time I think of it.

I started with Shortcuts. Then I learnt about Favorites. From my initial experiences, Favorites seem easier to reorder/navigate/rename etc compared to Shortcuts.

Is it possible to enumerate:

(i) situations where it is better to do Shortcuts rather than Favorites

(ii) situations where it is better to do Favorites rather than Shortcuts

I agree in part ... however, the difficulties arise when one has more link items for shortcuts than fit in the space available for then not all are always visible and easily accessible. When making shortcut groups as a possibility to have more shortcuts in the visible space, only the group icon/label is visible and an extra step is needed to see the shortcuts inside the group and click them; also, you can only click on the shortcut link but not drag and drop it to a specific place on your workspace.

In a sense, and as I understand it, the items in Favorites are all "shortcuts", i.e. with click or drag and drop you open in one step the item on your workspace, cutting short the perhaps necessary numerous steps to arrive at the same place.
Favorites has the advantage of better handling of items/links, such as placing in groups, reordering, drag and drop to certain workspace location, renaming, etc. Furthermore, at the top area of Favorites there is the section "Application > Quick Links" where one can set 9 shortcuts which can be activated also via a keyboard shortcut.

I personally use a mix of shortcut bar and Favorites ... a few items in shortcut bar for commands (e.g. changing language EN <> DE) and some tools (e.g. Program settings, quoted by, favorites, update layout now); and Favorites for main ("favorite") theme or topic related items, certain study settings, study group related items, project related items, etc. ...

You can drag a Shortcut onto your layout/workspace (in Windows).

Then you have to decide on the utility of Favorites for some of your Shortcuts. But you can minimise the space used by Shortcuts:

renaming the label
using only an image

If you want a shortcut use the Shortcut Bar. It has the same functionality as I clarified above, and both may involve "numerous steps" if you use folders. Only use Favorites if the utility of the Bar is stretched (but prioritize the items you really need on the Bar).

I use Favorites as you state, where hierarchical folders are used to best advantage. I don't think of them as shortcuts.[H]

I work on my laptop a lot and only 5 Shortcuts are visible. If I make the left column wider (which I don't like 'cos it eats into space I use for reading), then 9 Shortcuts are visible – but, still a small number. I’ve reorganized my Shortcuts and Favorites. Now the 5 Shortcuts are for tools I more frequently tap into - Favorites [:)], Highlights, Copy Bible Verse, Text Comparison, Collections - and thus can access with 1 click.

I've realized Favorites is the way to go for most of my needs – the hierarchical structure is a differentiating factor (with respect to Shortcuts), and it really helps to keep ‘em organized.

Thanks for pointing out Quick Links in Favorites. I went and saved a layout I’ve been using a lot. I now have to find 8 other useful shortcuts to fully utilize the tool I’ve learn about from you guys!

This is where I’ve landed now. 5 Shortcuts for 5 Tools I use more frequently ‘cos I can see only 5 in my laptop. Rest go in Favorites.
