can someone explain to me why jesus sent the despises two by two
I would look in commentaries - use the Passage Guide - for some thoughts.
One likely reason is the concept of "by two witnesses". There is also the reason of "if one is alone, he has no one to pick him up". There could be other reasons.
Matt 18:20 maybe.....?
So they can keep each other company just like Jesus sent the disciples in pairs on the limited commission 🤪
Well, looks like lots of good guesses. Since, Jesus didn't say.
But the correct answer is 'lions'. See, in the OT, the man of God went around by himself, and promptly got in trouble with YHWH. If he'd had his buddy along to remind him, no lions. And don't forget, the bones. He didn't even stay buried.
Not to be confused with the little boys and the two bears. Awful mawling.
Hello Mike
Jewish law stipulates that at least two witnesses and an agreement are required. They therefore have the necessary number of people present to affirm a statement's veracity if any of their hearers protest. Deuteronomy 19:15 says, " One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." You should compare translations, commentaries and go to the Greek.
It’s a really good question and worthy of further study. Here are my quick thoughts…
I suspect there were several good reasons Jesus sent out two disciples at a time (Luke 10:1). Firstly, as witnesses (Deu 19:15; 17:6) to establish an assertion of fact under Jewish law (Note: These were likely male as Women did not usually have the capacity to act as a complete witness). God even calls heaven and earth (Creation) as two witnesses (Deu 30:19). Secondly, at least two were needed to agree in prayer to settle a petition to God. Thirdly, Jesus would be with two or three gathered in His name and in homes and other places, they were likely to gather in His name. A minimum of two ensured He was with them in that way.
Matthew 18:16 - But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
Matthew 18:19 - Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Fourthly, the two acted as heralds or ambassadors of His coming. In Luke 10:1 Jesus sent out the disciples “two by two” to places before He was due to go there. They were also ‘heralds’ so that by their declarations, people could prepare for and be ready for His coming. We also see this in Revelation 11:3-12 where the “Two Witnesses” who appear in the Tribulation period will declare their testimony (i.e. about Jesus) and herald the physical return of Jesus to this earth.
Personally, I believe those “Two Witnesses” will soon appear on this earth, but fully expect not to be here when that happens. Jesus is coming so we need to make ready. Keep well Paul

Reminds me...
Back when I was teaching, I had a perpetually incorrigible student (for some reason the principal always tip-toed around this kid, which is why he never improved is demeanor) yell at me and call me a "bald Jew". I immediately looked out the window to the wooded area next to the school. I gotta admit, I was soooo tempted. [A]

I'm presently reading a book tracing similarities between the Elijah/Elisha narritives, vs synoptics and John narritives. Oddly, the 2 bears didn't make a reprise appearance!
