How to Delete a Highlighting Palette?

Over the years I have tried various highlighting approaches. In doing so, I created a few highlighting palettes. Now, I would like to delete a few of the palettes I created, since they are no longer used. But, I can't figure out how.

When I look at the Palettes with the Highlighting window open, I can open a drop-down with the option "Delete," but when I click on delete, nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to delete a Highlighting Palette?

Thanks,

Steve

Is there an error message at the top of the tool saying the palette is still in use?

Yes, it says "n Styles are still in use."  The N varies, depending on the list. It doesn't tell me which styles, nor do I understand why that would prevent me from deleting the list.

I get the impression you're going to tell me that if I delete each individual highlighter within the palette I can discover which styles are still in use so I can find them (somehow) and change/delete them?

You can't remove a palette until you have removed all references to it. Otherwise, the app would hit an old highlight and have no instructions for what to do ... other than crash. See Finding Highlighted Text (logos.com) for how to identify places it is still used.
