BUG? Missing and Disappearing Visual Filters in Bibles

I'm not sure what is going on but it seems like a bug. If not please forgive and help me.

I have 40 visual filters in my documents.

Only about 18-20 were showing up in my Bibles Visual Filter drop down menu.

Why? And how do I get them to show up- all are set to work in  my preferred Bible, the NASB or Top Bibles- all are RIs.

Out of the 18-20 VFs that were showing up in my Bible Visual Filter menu, only 12 remain because when I selected the checkbox they disappeared from the menu- they did not activate either- they are still in my documents and can be opened from there to view or edit.

I have tried; reindexing, restarting Logos, restarting my PC (Windows 11), closing and reopening the Bibles, I've tried a different Bible- NIV84.

I'm not sure yet, but I don't think all of the highlighting palettes associated with some of these VFs are still available in the highlighting tool, but I'm still checking that. However I don't believe that should cause the two issues above, would it?

Any help on this would be appreciated

Thank YouSmile

This is not my expertise. However, it may be helpful for you to provide screenshots so that we can "see" what you are.

Did you redirect some of the missing VFs to NIV84?  Did they appear for that Bible?

For some reason I really struggle with screenshots. What tool works the best and easiest?

This Snip-It tool is pretty awkward to use. Hope this helps.

This Screenshot shows most of the 39 VFs in my documents sorted alphabetically.

This one shows my NASB95 VF list which does not contain any of the first three or the Inductive 5Ws which were in the list before. But some of the others didn't show up at all, unless at some earlier point I had clicked them and they disappeared also and I didn't notice it.

I don't have any of these selected at the moment, but I've tried each of them and they still work correctly.

I wonder now how to get the others back and working?

    Look at this clip

I keep my visual filters narrowed down to specific translations and often to specific verses to minimize startup time and visual filter paint time for the resource. Are your "missing" visual filters set to apply to the translation and book they are missing from?

Thank you MJ for trying to help. I may be missing what you are trying to explain.

Maybe I'm not being clear either. The VF is not even being offered to select it in the drop down menu of the Bible [three cannon balls], or any Bible it now seems. It used to be and still exists in my docs menu. Not just one but several have disappeared and I don't know how to get them back.

Here is my example This VF at one time was in the NASB95 and worked but the last time I clicked it to select it in the NASB VF menu it disappeared from the selection menu and did not activate either.

Now after you shared your screen I went in to the doc menu  and opened it there and this VF was set to "Books", "All Text", All Books"

I just edited it to what you see above, but it still doesn't show up in that Bible after closing and reopening the Bible, turning on and turning off VFs. I see your is set to "Books" yet your using the LEB.

I can see if I messed up one VF, but these were all created by others and working previously and now don't show up to even select them in the VF dropdown menu or when they were there and I selected them they disappeared and never returned.

I just edited again it to the LEB and it is not available to select in that Bible either.

Any other suggestions? Maybe I should try deleting them and get another copy to see it mine was corrupted somehow?

Okay. I am assuming that any required highlighting palette is present and that Louw-Nida as a visual filter is not just beyond the list shown. You are absolutely correct that with the visual filter as you show and the NASB98 as you show, the palette should be offered as an option. I would suggest contacting customer service as something has gone awry in your installation and I wouldn't want to make things worse by guessing what.

Do you have the Palette with the styles required by the VF?

I could not locate the VF in your screenshot. I tried Public and Groups

Okay, now we are back to a comment I made in my earlier post about the highlighting palette. It is missing and so are others.

the palette should be offered as an option

But I thought if the palette was missing it's selection would not be offered in the VF document as I show in my screenshot, in fact, if I click on the dropdown in that VF doc the whole palette shows for me to choose from. I would have thought it would have been blank if the palette were missing from my highlighting tool.

If this is the problem I should be able to delete that VF from the documents and download another and it should work. I'll post back after I've done that.

    Thank you!

I can confirm that the VF will function with (recently) deleted styles, but I would not rely on that in the long term.

Check My Documents for the palette in case it was deleted. Otherwise, the palette should be imported when you request the VF from Public or Groups.

    I'm working on it.

Seems I have VFs with no palette and palettes with no VF. Don't know what happened. Trying to clean house and get down to just what I have both VF and Palettes for and start from there.

I think part of what may have happened is when a VF is downloaded it's corresponding palette is tucked away in highlights and forgotten until one day I see this odd highlighting palette that has no reference to a VF in it title and I say, I don't need that, ... delete[6]

I'll post back when I'm finished.

Okay! Here are my findings and fixes.

    • I found all VFs that did not work in their appropriate resources and deleted them, noting that all the associated palettes had been previously deleted or the styles moved.[:$]
    • I also found that when I deleted a VF I no longer needed, that deleting it did not always remove it's highlighting palette. It had to be deleted separately.
    • Next I went back to the Group Documents and retrieved a new copy of the VFs and verified each one worked before adding a new one.
    • Finally, I edited each VF Highlighting Palette title and added VF to its name to prevent any future confusion on my part.

Everything is working as expected again.

Thank you everyone for your patience and kind assistance in helping me work through my own ignorant stumblings[:$]

Maybe this post will help prevent someone else from making the same mistake at least.
