Is something wrong with the Concordance Tool?

This is with Logos 28.2 on Windows 11

I can use the Concordance Tool to find verbs of a particular type - in this example Greek Nominative

But the options to filter further by either Number or Gender are greyed out (there are other similar greyed out sections but these two fitted in the same screenshot!)

The first occurence in the expanded list is plural and masculine so I expected to be able to filter by those (at least)

Am I misundestanding how this should work or is there something wrong with the Tool?

Thanks, Graham

I just wonder why you would run a morph-analysis against ESV instead of a Greek NT?

My ken is limited, but I observe that if you adjust All Passages to New Testament you will note that the behavior is more as expected.

    It's a fair question!

But as we can run a morph search against the ESV I would have expected to be able to do the same in the Concordance Tool

But, you are right, if I use the SBLGNT in the Concordance Tool it works fine.

That's very interesting - and unexpected (at least to me)

    Thank you for that insight.

When I go back to All Passages (just for testing) and specify the Greek language I then don't get any option to filter on verbs or nouns even though they are clearly present in the list

Yes and I think this is a bug.

    Graham,

I am not seeing this behavior:

I am running the latest stable version of Logos, not the beta on a Mac running Ventura. I can run both of your searches in the Concordance that you show in this thread without problems. Are you on Sonoma? Perhaps reindex the ESV?

    Hi John

    Thanks for checking

I am running the latest stable version of Logos, not the beta on a Mac running Ventura.

I am running the latest stable version on Windows 11.

But, interestingly, I've just done the same thing on my work computer - also with the latest stable version on Windows 11 - and I get the same results as you are seeing.

When I get home I'll investigate further - it could be an index, but I think it more likely it could be a corrupt cache in the tool.

The cache makes sense if it did not populate a new one when you opened it.

I'm on Sonoma and I see the behavior as described by Graham. How do I reindex a single resource?

How do I reindex a single resource?

Enter the command reindex bookname in the command box and select the command from the dropdown menu.

However, I think's actually the cache file that is causing the problem not the index. This is located in the Data/specialid/Concordance subfolder of the Logos file structures. I've just deleted that and rebuilt it and the problem seems to be better.

    Just one issue outstanding. If:

    • I have All Passages selected
    • I specify verb
    • I specify the Greek language
    • Then the filter options are greatly reduced

This doesn't happen if I have just New Testament selected or don't specify Greek

John - are you able to check if you see the same thing?

In Logos v28.2 (freshly generated) if I have:

    • New Testament
    • Verb, then
    • filter options are greatly reduced i.e. Hebrew ones removed, and
    • I can select other Greek options i.e. TVM etc.

    OR

    • All Passages
    • Verb, then
    • Hebrew filter options are present, and
    • there is no Greek Tense/Mood because Hebrew TAM is present.
    • if I select Greek it makes no difference

    OR

    • All Passages
    • Greek, then
    • I can't select most Greek options incl. Part of Speech

Basically, New Testament is the only selection that provides workable Greek options. Likewise, Old Testament is needed for Hebrew options

In Verbum v29 Beta 3 if I have:

    • All Passages
    • Greek, then
    • most Greek filter options are workable!

But  New TestamentOld Testament are needed for workable options.

In other words, Concordance is buggy!
