BUG? - Unable to highlight
I am running Logos v 26.0 on Windows 11 22H2 (build 22621.1848) on an HP i7 laptop. I suddenly cannot highlight. I was trying to highlight this passage in Augustine's City of God and I can select the text, the selection menu appears, but when I click the highlight button nothing happens. By "nothing happens" I mean that the menu disappears, the text remains selected, but it is not highlighted. I then tried it with a passage in Christopher Watkin's Biblical Critical Theory and thought I'd try a Bible as well, and I can't highlight in NA28 either. I restarted Logos, and it didn't make any difference.
I've attached logs here.Logos 230706.zip
I have recently reported a similar issue with the iPadOS version so wonder if something has been broken in highlighting in general. The one thing I haven't tried is rebooting my PC. I will try that and post in here if it works after that.

This is a known issue if the resources are not downloaded to your mobile device.

Just to be clear - my issue is on the Windows version and the resources are downloaded on the device. Given the number of bug reports on highlighting in general on both desktop and mobile, I suspect something has been broken deeper within he software.

You mean "when I click ONE of the various colored highlight buttons," right? Just want to make sure we are on the same page. I tried on Mac, and had no issues. I know that others have complained. Are they all on windows?

Correct.

I have no problem on the upcoming v27 beta, whether using the Selection Menu, Context Menu or the Highlighting tool

If you open a second copy of the book you are trying to make highlights in, do the highlights show up? If so, this is a known issue that has been fixed in Beta and will be available when v27 ships.

Using version 27.2.21 and still cannot highlight in the NAC for Jeremiah or the NASB no matter whether I use the context menu or the highlight tool.

Any solution to this issue? I have not been able to highlight for several years now. I just upgraded to 29.0 and still nothing. I have the Notes and Filters visual filter turned on in all my resources, and all my highlighting and notes from before the most recent upgrades appear in my resources, but somewhere along the line something got broken, and now I can still add notes, but when I select text in any resource and try to highlight, nothing happens. Also, when I highlight in my Logos Android app on my tablet, the highlighting does not sync to my desktop PC. I'm running Logos in Windows 10.

Yesterday I did a feature upgrade from Logos 9 to Logos 10, but no difference. I'm actually having more issues than I thought. To recap, I'm using Logos 10 on a desktop PC, and the Logos mobile app on an Android tablet. So I only create notes on the desktop, and there's no problem there—the notes also appear in the mobile app.
But my highlights are more messed up than I originally thought. I can create highlights on my tablet, but they don't sync to the desktop, as of roughly 2020 (Logos 8?). For highlighting on the tablet I had been using "No notebook" for "Notebook for highlights," which seemed to work fine for syncing until 2020. I can still highlight on the tablet, but even saving the highlights in a user-created highlighting file, which also exists on my desktop, and even after syncing, and shutting down and restarting both mobile and desktop apps, highlighting does not appear in the desktop resource or even in the user-created highlighting file. It seems that the highlighting file is not syncing to the desktop.
On the desktop side, I had been using user-created highlighting files, but sometime after December of 2020, as described in my last post, I can no longer highlight. With the highlight tool open, I select text, click on a highlight style, and nothing happens. I tried creating a fresh highlighting note file, but even with this note file open, no note appears when I highlight and click on a highlight style. I've tried highlighting with two instances of the resource open, but still nothing. Not only that, but the highlighting that I previously created up until 2020 no longer syncs to my mobile app, even though it appears in my desktop resources (admittedly, there are over 4000 highlights in the user-created highlighting note file that I was using).
Interestingly, the highlights I was able to create in the desktop app up until 2020 do appear in the web app.
Help, please.

I'd l like you to do a couple of things in Desktop with logging enabled (press CTRL key as you start Logos):
- Note the time and change a Highlighting style then Save it
- Note the time and apply that style to some text (any book)
- Close Logos
- Zip the log files as per the wiki and upload using the paperclip icon.
- Include the times you noted in your post.
- Restart Logos if you need to.
In the Tablet with logging enabled:
- Note the time and change a Highlighting style then Save it
- Note the time and apply that style to some text (any book)
- Close Logos
- Zip the log files as per the wiki and upload using the paperclip icon.
- Include the times you noted in your post.

Dave, I'm not sure what you mean in the second part of the procedure. I don't find any way of enabling logging in the Android logos app, or any way of changing the Highlighting styles. Thanks for your help

Dave, I'm not sure what you mean in the second part of the procedure.
Please ignore that part and follow the procedure for the Desktop.

I am facing the same issue, I am unable to highlight anything. This has been for a while but I had not used Logos that much. Is there a solution to this issue? Should I send a logging report to Logos Support?
I am using Logos on Windows and Mac and the behavior is the same on both.www.aprendalogos.com

The thing that fixed it for me was upgrading to the new Notes tool. I had opted to use the old Notes system and because highlighting is stored in note documents and because the legacy Notes tool wasn't working properly, my highlighting wasn't working. When a support tech led me through updating to the new Notes tool, everything suddenly worked again. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, Jon.
I use the new Notes tool for a while, since it was launched. So, apparently it is something else. Maybe the best approach is to reach out the Tech Support. Thanks again.www.aprendalogos.com

OK. I just found out that the issue occurs only when my UI is in Portuguese (my mother language). Testing with English, Spanish and German UI, highlighting works fine. So, I will contact the CS.

I have the problem as described in the topic, though not with circumstances posted so far. I have a relatively new installation on Mac Studio M2 (taking the place of a 2019 Intel iMac). The Logos version is completely up to date (36.0.733).
The problem is, I can not make highlights (typically not in Bibles, but other books) with the highlight tool. All my highlighting has been "dumb" (just select and click highlight, or just select on iPad). If I do the highlighting anywhere else (including an identical Logos desktop installation on a MacBook M1), the highlight properly syncs and shows up on the Mac Studio installation.
I just can not make any highlights on that desktop version. When I do it, nothing happens.
I don't know if this is related to the "Old Files" vs. "Notes" issue. All my other "dumb" highlights show up in the Notebook named "No Notebook", and (like I said) display just fine. Maybe some hidden setting? Are these hidden settings (settable with command window "Set" commands) documented anywhere?

You must request that the notebook containing the highlights be requested in the Visual Filters display list. The Visual Filters menu is under the 3 dots-triangle form if you are running the standard version. I am running the beta version so I can't provide a screen shot.

I assume "dumb" highllighting is select the text and then click the style in the Highlighting tool? What happens if you change the default Notebook in the Palette:
"Active notebook" could result in "No "Notebook" being the default. But the highlight should appear in the book irrespective of default notebook or any other setting.
Does the highlight appear in the Notes tool?

(Edited to correct Notebook name)
Dave,
I do see that I could choose either "Active Notebook" (which is chosen) or "No Notebook" (which is where all the highlights are).
Where is the "Active Notebook" set? I would guess that's what (somehow) changed for this instance.

(Sorry that choice was NOT "Default Notebook" but "Active Notebook").

It looks like if I actively choose "No Notebook", it works as before. I have no idea how this would have changed. What is "Active Notebook" used for?
I think I will just spend some time learning more about Notes. I'm pretty sure all I've done are in one notebook. That's what I meant by dumb.

My own experiment showed that Active Notebook wasn't the previously used Notebook (if one could remember/know that!), so I would always chose a real Notebook as default in the Palette.
I would avoid "No Notebook" as default and create one that reflected your purpose for highlighting (and/or taking notes).
