Is there a way to go back to typing in the Bible verse in the Bible Passage “area”. Since the recent update I can only click the verses which brings up a pop up to click the book, then the chapter.

If you tap the magnifying class icon, you can enter the reference there and tap Go

Great news! But why on earth did the ‘developers’ introduce such a retrograde step in the first place?? For entering the ref field precipitated a lengthy decision tree of: OT/NT; books; chapters; verses … Who on earth decided and on what basis/set of criteria, to set up such an elongated rigmarole just to reach say 1 kings 3 or Rev 3:14 in any specific open Bible resource.

I'm frankly pretty unimpressed with the novelty - and I’ve been with Logos since 1994 (yes; floppies and all!!). why fix what ain’t broke?!

Well, I had to check it out, so I installed the app. And then deleted it. I've a $50k-ish library, but no patience for dinking around ... no Faithlife app is like an apple a day.  I can't believe they have so much time on their hands, to create non-intuitive interfaces. Maybe they could watch TV or something.

to set up such an elongated rigmarol

I just tried it and it hardly seems like "an elongated rigmarole." Before, you would have to touch the field to start typing. The amount of steps now is the same... instead of touching the field, you touch the magnifying glass. It would be an extra step if you had to touch the field AFTER you touched the magnifying glass, but you don't.

Looks to me they're trying repeat the desktop mess with the command box, using a search icon! The minute they took the user focus from the Bible text (wanting to enter a Bible ref), it was 'delete' for me. They should try other types of apps; Bible study isn't their cup of tea.

Previously: you touched the Bible reference field in an open Bible resource, typed 1 Kings 3, and voila! The text jumped to that reference.
Now: you touch the Bible ref field, and the decision tree gets going - OT/NT; books; chapters; verses. Finally, you arrive …

Sure; thanks to that previous answer: instead of going near the Bible ref field to populate it, one simply goes to the magnify glass search icon. And voila! Job done. But my question remains. Why fix what ain’t broke in the latest ‘upgrade’??? No one seems to have addressed that!

Why not make it a setup option like some of the other apps do?

My point exactly: a simple toggle - old approach/new approach. Imagination needed …

For many users, the new system is preferable. They may not know what to type to get where they want to go.

Aha; a case of biblical literacy then ... They’ve heard of … what? That there’s a book called 1 kings. How to find it? Well; they need to know this much: it’s in the OT part of the tree … Yet, if they just typed 1 Kings, they’d arrive there directly. So; what exactly is it that these people prefer? what research has gone into preferences and changes and so on? I’m curious, as I’ve been a pastor for decades, a teacher for decades, and a writer for decades. As well as utilising logos for years …
You brief response begs as much as it tries to answer

Then you are not the best demographic.

Shucks!!! That’s a response from someone who thinks their experience and understanding of “pastor” fits my profile … VERY UNLIKELY!

I’ve also interfaced with the world of commerce, farmers, school teachers, politicians (local and national), children and grandchildren, in three continents, with international connections as well as across socio-economic strata and across cultures (with a variety of languages) that frankly is RARE. But hey! You’re forgiven mate, as you’re operating from a basis that’s driving a piece of software … where … and why?!

    Enjoy your research …

    That there’s a book called 1 kings.

I'm amused that you chose an example that is ambiguous - it can refer to either 1 Samuel or to 1/3 Kings depending on whether the reference is to the Septuagint system or the Masoretic system. Thanks for giving me an evening break.

Glad to amuse you Queen Victoria! It takes quite a bit to crack that smile!

meanwhile, it depends ENTIRELY what resource is actually open … THAT determines how the refs behave I suggest … Peshitta anyone?
