Links to Abbreviation in PBs

Hello (Dave Hooton)

I have a question: If a PB has a list of abbreviations how do I best link all the abbreviations in the text to this?

I give an example from a Logos resource.

In the text itself

I don't see any milestone and datatype links for the Abbreviations. I see in the list of search field list the entry abbrevpop. https://wiki.logos.com/Search_Fields_List

May I have a misunderstanding: for me the abbreviation in the text refers/links to the abbreviation mentioned in Abbreviations.

Thanks

You can use a Headword for each abbreviation  e.g.

    List of Abbreviations Used:

[[@Headword:Abbr1]] Abbr1 - This is its text of Abbr1 that I have made long as an illustration.

    [[@Headword:Abbr2]] Abbr2 - This is its text of Abbr2

    [[@Headword:Abbr3]] Abbr3 - This is its text of Abbr3

    [[@Headword:end]] End List

    • They have to be a Heading style
    • The end headword is needed to limit the scope of the last abbreviation.
    • "End List" is optional

To refer to an abbreviation use:

    [[Abbr2  >> Headword:Abbr2]]

    Hello Dave

Many thanks. I have some infos / questions.

    1. Headword:end or Headword:stop? I guess last time you said "stop".

    2. Maybe you can add this info to the wiki.

    3. Does this end or stop work too for [[@Bible:end]]?

    4. You can improve with

    [[@Headword:LXX]]LXX {{field-on:abbrevpop}}Abbreviation for the Septuagint.{{field-off:abbrevpop}}[[@Headword:end]]

    may

    [[@Headword:LXX]]{{field-on:abbrevpop}}LXX Abbreviation for the Septuagint.{{field-off:abbrevpop}}[[@Headword:end]]

is better as you can then search for the "LXX" / abbrevitaion itself,  if you have abbrevpop selected.

    5. It doesn't look nice

In contrary to the Logos own ones.

    6. I guess they do the abbreviation list in abbrevpop, but then the abbr. itself in a pop-up/dead link. So it pops-up, but it doesn't go to the abbr. list. If you click on the abbr. it doesn't go to the list or a footnote. As it is in other softwares. The abbr. in the text are also not blue.

    7. How do I do now such pop-ups?

A simple  [[LXX >> Pop-Up:LXX Abbre…]] or so would be great, so a simple search and replace works.

    8. May you add more Milestones and Datatype links to the wiki. For example the Goodrick/Kohlenberger GK etc.

    9. Thanks

It doesn;t matter as the word is never seen. It is the final headword in your list.

It would have to be a valid bible reference. But the scope of the last bible milestone extends throughout the book.

    You can search for field.abbrevpop:LXX

Note that [[@Headword:end]] is meant to follow the last abbreviation in the list.

I did this without using the popup field.

Agree. I didn't use the popup field as it did not work with [[LXX >> Headword:LXX]].

Not sure. It does not work except as a field.

Not really. The wiki describes how to obtain any such links

    Hello Dave

Many many thanks for your detailed explanation.

It doesn;t matter as the word is never seen. It is the final headword in your list.

So the word is not relevant. It only must be a Headword which is not used? Correct?

    You can search for field.abbrevpop:LXX

But the "LXX" has to be in or before the field-search?

It seems you haven't done the [[@Headword:....]] as a header. I thought they have to be as header. Thanks

Did you know of any way to make pop-ups?

    Thanks

    Correct

Not sure what you mean. "LXX" can be any word or phrase you want to find in that field.

The abbrevpop field acts like any other field in PB's. You can have its content "popup" with it also being a Headword (using a Heading style).

I tried a few other ways but the Headword is the only way to restrict the content of the popup.

I mean here. I have made it in bold, to be better visible. You have mentioned here about the Headword at the end. But my goal was to show you where the abbreviation is to put. If you put it in the field. You can search for it.

    Thanks for all your help.
