Important changes to beta testing for v32

We hope to be shipping a beta release of v32 next week, but the process will be a little bit different from normal. In addition to downloading the beta software, you'll also need some additional licenses if you want to test all of the features. We'll distribute those licenses via a Faithlife group, and we'll post the link to the group once the beta has been released.

The group will give you access to those licenses during the beta testing period, after which the licenses will expire. If you don't join the beta group, you'll still be able to use the beta and test the bug fixes – but the new features won't be available for you to test.

I'll say more next week, but I think there are some pretty exciting things to test!

Why not make all the features available for the duration of the beta and then impose license restrictions? Expose them to testing from potentially a wider audience by avoiding the "inconvenience" of registering.

Will they become part of a new Feature set, or available as an extra cost to a current Feature set(s)?

Agreed. Why not just make it part of the beta, with license(s) that expire when it goes gold? People don't even know what it is, they have to sign up for a Faithlife group that they may not want to do, plus be in the beta - seems like a lot of hoops to me. But the big part is we don't even know what this is - how many hoops to jump through not knowing what this is?

You are either testing the beta software or you are not. No need for a bifurcation of the beta testing process from the little I know. I moved out of the beta program until I know more and can decide whether to join a Faithlife group or not.

We did consider whether we could just automatically open up access to the beta build, but it's quite a bit of extra work for us to do so. There would be client-side work on all three platforms, and several server-side components that would need to be opened up. Just as importantly, doing so wouldn't test whether we have the license checking written correctly. To be effective, the beta build needs to be as close as possible to the forthcoming release build.

Everybody beta-tests with their own library, that's the concept. I answered you in the other thread about how - this should not be different to the instructions in the pinned post in this beta forum.

I should probably wait for your announcement but I do have a question. Will FaithLife Connect subscribers get/keep the "Special" licenses or will they have to jump through the new hoops also? (Has this scenario been discussed?) I still currently have access due to the Beta program.

Unfortunately, Logos has to pay/incur costs for AI features so we can expect to pay for them - whether all or over some threshold I don't know. I would rather Logos charge those who use the features rather than spreading the cost to everyone.

I have no need for AI, so do not want to invest in it. Something like put-AI-in-Gold, while I buy Bronze would suffice.

Maybe they will re-boot 'Faithlife Connect' (maybe 'Logos What's Happnin' Now') to include the new things. I recall not long ago some forum users were reporting odd behavior on the Faithlife Connect page, which might be an indicator that some editing was being done that accidentally went out the doggie door.

I agree. The other option is to have only those who would use them pay for them! I have no intention of paying for something I don't or won't use. I have enough money invested in Logos already and I DO NOT intend to invest anymore especially if we are going to move to a subscription service!
