Do you use the notes option of the left-side bar of your Bible? If so, can you tell me how you find it useful? It doesn't behave as I thought and I'm having trouble adjusting my thinking.

I don't know how it's suppose to behave... but I do use it as a "quick look up" of Notes for a chapter and verse. For me it works good for that.

No I don't, I keep the ToC open or close that side bar.

Same. I've never accessed notes through there until today, and I can't see why I would want to in the future.

I'm pretty new to Logos and never noticed that before. Pretty cool. I can see myself using it from time-to-time.

For my bible, no. But it is nice when, after having highlighted and taken notes in a monograph, to review them all using this feature.

While I have glanced at the Notes sidebar a few times throughout the years and find it interesting, I have yet to find any real usefulness in it. There appears to be no rhyme or reason that I can find that would allow it to be valuable in my study.

I use it on one specialized way that I find very helpful.

I take text-critical notes in my bible and mark them with a specific highlight (screenshot).

I often wish to mark up one of my paper bibles with the info, and this sidebar notes feature, when sorted by my TC notebook and then specified to show highlights, gives me a simple, sequential list of the TC notes I've taken in Logos; the little double-cross icon allows me to click to open the note if I want to write down some info, manuscript abbreviations, etc. (second screenshot).

  • I always liked the way, believe it or not, that notes were done in Logos 1.6. Your notes were right in your Bible. On the sidebar, there was an "N" that you would press and then the note file opened up at the bottom of your Bible. Wonder if there would be any way to utilize the current features of the notes but add it right into your favorite bible?

Opening at the bottom of your bible.... I have not seen this.... but I think that would be a great way to view notes. That way, as I understand it, you could scroll your bible and the note, if any, would appear at the bottom of the page.  Cool feature in my view!

I think Logos Notes could use some "updating"....  I use them and like them... but they could be improved... like the view that you mentioned. Good point! [8-|]

Thanks for all the answers.  You given me much to mull over.

After reading Doc B’s post, I found a way that the notes option of the left-side bar can be beneficial for me. I am facilitating a man's small group that is using a devotional book with enough devotions for nearly a two-year period. I have created a notebook for the devotion that includes extra information that is shared, including scripture references. I want to be well-rounded on the scripture I use, and I found that if I add an anchor in these notes — both to the devotional book and the scripture reference — I can easily see which scripture quotes I have used throughout the two-year period.

As others have said: No I don't, I keep the ToC open or close that side bar.

As a user since Logos 2 ... (before "libby" - Libronix-) etc  I NEVER remember that this is even an option.
