Greek New Testament

Hi everyone. I have the SBL and Byzantine Greek New Testament but I was looking to get either the Tyndale or NA28 New Testament. My question for one is, which one of these 2 do you ask prefer? And secondly, would you recommend buying these on logos or in print form? They both sound really nice and the NA28 book with the dictionary has good reviews on Amazon. Do you think the SBL is good enough to not buy the others?

Is this for school/seminary or for personal study? Also, are you interested in textual criticism or do you just want access to the new testament in greek?

I am interested in textual criticism but I also like the idea of Tyndale being made for reading. I like both ideas and I may eventually get both, but I was curious on which I should get first.

Tough call. The NA28 has a more extensive apparatus if you need that. The Tyndale is a rework of Tischendorf's NT, and I love the history there when I read it. The Tyndale is significantly less expensive if cost is a barrier.

Yes. (Both.) If you can't afford both, IMO, get a print one first. I love the Crossway Diglot version of the NA28 (because I'm not smart enough to read Luke in Greek yet, LOL), and they also publish a reader's version of the Tyndale, which is very nice.

No, but where the SBL really shines is the apparatus. They list the major Greek versions (WH, TR, NA/UBS) with the variants, which I love because I get asked a LOT why someone's bible doesn't have a verse, etc.

You should definitely get them in Logos rather than a print edition. You'd only need a print edition if you were a student and your professor insisted upon you having one. If you're prioritizing reading now and textual criticism later, get the full Tyndale edition that comes with the dictionary, since that would be another helpful Logos resource for you. You can never have too many greek lexicons. If you're a serious student of textual criticism you will definitely need the NA28 since it's the scholarly standard.

So if I were you, I'd get either get both now if you have the money, or one now and one later. If you want to prioritize the one that most of the writers of commentaries are using, get the NA28 first. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter which one you get first if you're eventually getting both anyway.

Yeah, this. Tyndale House GNT has a relationship with Tregelles' NT, not Tischendorf's.

To answer the original question, I'd say get the NA28 in Logos. NA28 is what most (newer) commentaries are going to assume, so it's useful to have around. If you're looking for a print edition of something, consider the THGNT.

Thanks for the recommendation. On my original question I put the link to the NA28 on Amazon from Institute for New Testament Textual Research, and on the reviews someone said it has a list of abbreviations of Church Fathers. I wasn't sure if there are some features in that print form that is not on the logos edition.

I would be surprised if this were the case.

It certainly includes, for example, abbreviations of church fathers

Here's a helpful resource to help you know how to use the NA28. Reading this along with the Forward and Introduction in the NA28 should get you set up.

I'm 60 and they both start with a 'T'. [:P]

Sorry about the mixup. The historical connection is still valid, though.
