Highlighting broken!!!
I downloaded the Logos for iPad update today (29-Feb-2024) (note: I stupidly did this in the middle of a week long intensive seminary course).
Now I can no longer highlight text on the iPad... well, I can, but choosing a word or two is almost impossible. Logos selected the whole verse and I have to manually drag the ends of the selection to the word(s) I want to highlight. Undoing the highlight is even worse (I've actually switch to my laptop to undo highlights because I can actually do it there)
Is anyone else having problems with this? Is there a way to roll back the update???
HELP!!!!!

Well, yes and no...
Works for initial highlighting, but not for choosing already highlighted text...
Yes, you can select the highlighted section from the popup menu but that's a real PAIN compared to the way it was working...
It worked the way it was... why change it to something so kludgy and unintuitive...
This update stinks!!!!
Do you know how to do a rollback?

If you are on android, someone might be able to help. If you are on iOS, you don't have that option.

Don't think the option is available in Android either.
It’s my understanding that it’s Not officially supported, but possible. (Through side loading)

Agree.
When was on my iphone, I was happy to see the change. But updating my ipad mini, it was still the old way ... what?! Then, I realized the mini is on an older ios.

Thank you for this thread. I was just coming here to start my own. The new update is nice except for highlighting, which maybe they could make a priority over other tap features. For me, I often accidently drag a highlight of something as I'm trying to scroll on my iPhone. Now, in order to delete the highlight, I have to long press a word, then drag over the entire length of the exact highlight to get the trash can icon. Otherwise, I have to open the notes feature and delete it there. This is frustrating and not helpful.

If you long-press on a word that is highlighted, you can tap the three vertical dots in the highlight card in the selection menu and tap "Delete". This prevents you from having to open the Notes feature and prevents you from having to select the entire length of the exact highlight.

And yet... that's such a kludge compared to how it used to work... I want the old functionality back. This new way of doing it isn't useful or efficient...

I don't know if it is a difference between iOS and Android, or merely the fact that sometimes we become accustomed to doing something in a certain way, but I find this new update to be so much better and substantially more usable than it had been.
Opening main menus within a book has become far easier for me. Highlighting portions in a book has become easier as well, as it mimics the selection style of most every other app that I have used in Android through the years.
Removing highlights from a portion of a book seems easier too, particularly when I have more than one highlight in that portion of the book.
At least for me, this new selection style gives me more options for how to edit my highlighting and note taking usage in Logos. I do think that improvements could be made, such as adding options (copy highlighted text for example) to the highlight card in the selection menu.
I do remember how aggravated I was though, years ago when I first started using mobile devices with Android. The difference between Android and Windows frustrated me until I became familiar with the Android style.

I think what you are saying works when the highlight is one word, but not otherwise.
I've highlighted a sentence/passage/para before, and now I am unable to get the trash icon after pressing the 3 vertical dots even if I select the exact highlighted passage before. Please give us a easy way (I'm ok with learning new things) to select and delete previous markups.

On iOS, it works for me as Ali indicated. On the iPad, I highlight a paragraph, long-press a single word in the paragraph, I get the selection menu, tap the three dots, and I get the Delete option:
It works as well when I select the entire highlighted paragraph (selecting is finicky, though):
I tested on the iPhone as well, with a Bible, and it works the same.
it is not overlaying a Purple color to the highlight!
DO you have the note file turned on in this resource?

There was a type in my post. It should have said "It is NOW overlaying a Purple color to the highlight!
I am not following your question. I am just reading the Bible and take Notes like I always do. Whatever the "Note file" you are talking about must have been turned on from whenever I bought the software I guess, 'cos I don't remember turning anything on.
Thanks for trying to help out. It has been super frustrating to delete prior highlights 'cos I just don't get the option with the 3 vertical dots.

Highlights are a special kind of note. You can turn the file on or off to hide the highlights. In your original post, you said that the highlights were not showing, so I asked if you had it turned off.
You should create a new thread. Post screenshots and explain your issue(s) clearly.

Thank you JT. This time, I was lucky You can see below that when I hit the 3 vertical dots, I don't even get the "delete" option.

Is it because your select is at least one character shorter than the yellow highlight?

Yes, tap there. You do not need to select the whole highlight. One word will do. This is especially helpful for when you have overlapping highlights, as you will be able to easily choose the highlight you wish to deal with.

Thank you Kevin. I didn't notice the one you pointed not. Wow, now this makes it even more confusing because there are now 2 places with 3 vertical dots - the triangle and the circle.
If I hit the lower 3-vertical-bars that you point to, I do get the "Delete" button. Happy to have figured this out. I was fooling around. It looks like even if a double tap doesn't cover the whole highlight, if I delete the "Delete" button, the highlight gets deleted.
You could save yourself a tap by hitting the "delete" button next to the 3-vertical-bars at the too. Maybe, this option doesn't always show.
At any rate, having 3-vertical-bars in two places is confusing.

1Cor10 31, Rev. Kevin Obermeyer - you are quite welcome! It is always a blessing to be able to help others as I have been helped so many times through the years on this forum.
Yasmin, I too, only get the 'delete' button at the top of the selection menu when I select the entire highlight, and only when there is no overlapping second highlight. I have gotten used to going directly to the highlight cards at the bottom of the selection menu.

I've played around and have figured out how to delete highlighting, especially when there are multiple highlights. The "highlight" cards are the key, Thank you so much! A headache has been resolved.

I agree, "This change, which requires re-highlighting precisely the previous highlight, in order to delete it is such a pain. Is there a shortcut we can set up where we can do X and Y (instead of a single tap as it used to be before) to re-highlight the previous one?"
This update is more cumbersome and time consuming than before. I continue to experience daily struggle and distraction from this app update.

If you look closely at the posts above, you will see that you do not have to re-highlight precisely the previous highlight in order to delete it. This updated highlighting, though different, is actually easier than it was before, once you figure out how to use the highlight cards, particularly when you have multiple highlights in the same location. All you have to do is long-press a single word within the highlight in order to delete the whole highlight. If the word is a part of multiple highlights, you can even choose which highlight to delete.

Thanks!
Levity can go a long way in easing stress sometimes.
While it is true that ease of use is in the eye of the user, what I stated about actual usage is indeed true; you do not have to “re-highlight precisely the previous highlight” in order to delete it. My pictorial example in one of the posts above is from my own phone. I just tested again on my phone, and I am still able to delete highlights by only long-pressing upon a single word within the highlight.
That being said, I do not know if there are any differences between Android and iOS use expectations. I only use Android for my mobile devices, and this new update is “world's” better for me.

In response to feedback received from our users, we will be releasing an update that restores the old functionality of tapping on a highlight to select it.
Joe,
Is there any way that the single-tap, double-tap, and long-press functions can be made to be user selectable in the mobile app? I say this because I think this newest update is one of the best updates mobile has had, in Android at least, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. It would be a great benefit if those who need to be able to work with highlights on a regular basis in mobile could choose how they do so, and those who need to be able to easily and quickly move from menu to menu in mobile could choose how they do so.
For me, going back to the old way will make Logos mobile virtually useless for small group Bible study. Before this recent change, I was actually considering some way I might be able to afford a windows type tablet in order to use the desktop version of Logos in small groups.

this was the best update. Please don’t go back. It was nearly impossible to tap the words, select the word, tap the screen if the whole chapter is highlighted.

Latest update in beta version:
- single tap selects the highlight with options
- double tap selects entire verse with options
- long press selects single word with options.
