*New Touch Gestures in version 32*

With the newest update (version 32.0), we have implemented new (or old, depending on how you think of it) touch gestures when reading a book on the mobile app. They are as follows:

  • Single tap = show/hide menus
  • Double tap = select the verse
  • Long press = select one word

Prior to Logos 10, a single tap would show or hide the top and bottom toolbars. We changed that behavior with the Logos 10 release, but after gathering significant data from all of you, we have reinstated the single tap behavior to show and/or hide the top and bottom toolbars.

This means that you can no longer single-tap to select an entire highlight. However, you are still able to edit and/or delete your highlights by double-tapping on a highlight and then tapping the three vertical dots associated with the highlight card in the selection menu. We realize that this is a big change for many of you, but the intent was to bring back the functionality of single-tapping to show and/or hide the top and bottom toolbars.

That being said, please feel free to vote and provide feedback on this feature request post in Logos Feedback.

You can view an older post about this change in the Mobile Beta forum.

Ali, at least for me, please do not change from:

    Single tap = show/hide menus

Double tap = select the verse

Long press = select one word

My need to copy highlights is negligible for most of my mobile app use (mainly during small groups and the like), whereas my need to see menus easily and quickly is extremely important. In the past, we would have already moved to another point or verse before I could find what I was looking for to help aid in discussion.

Certainly, being able to manually change your options in the app would be beneficial; but barring that, I prefer this new (or old if you will) default.

THANK YOU! I was frustrated yesterday with the inability to bring up the option to change tabs.

I am very disappointed with the change... I never understood what made it hard to tap at the top to open the menu bar to change tabs, and the loss of the single click to change highlights is very significant for me. I would love for this change to be a menu setting since it appears many people do like the change.

In my Android.... the bar at the top to tap on was very thin. I had to tap a couple of time just to get the menu. The "one tap" for the menu is perfect!

I had the same issue with getting to the menu on my Android tablet. It was unusually difficult (and rather frustrating) to press the bar in just the right way to bring up the menu. This recent change makes it just so much easier to quickly find items in the menu when needed during group study.

    Hi Ali,

I am wondering if you could update the information you've presented here at the top of this word to handle other issues brought up in this thread: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/221452.aspx?PageIndex=2

    Thanks

I had the same trouble: It usually (always?) took two taps to get the menu. Getting access to an app's main menus is about as basic a functionality as you can get, so making that more accessible to most users makes a heap of sense.

Current highlighting functionality seems quite accessible to me (with a highlight-copying option in the works, I understand). I am sorry that the power highlighter community is feeling more friction. But I do think that friction was reduced for a much higher number of users with this update, while maintaining decent access to other functions.

You are absolutely right that my questions have been answered by super-helpful Forum members. But I thought it will be helpful to users, in general, to have all the changes referenced in one place (instead of spread across different Forum posts). But that decisions is all yours; mine was just a suggestion.

After using this a while, I do think this is a vast improvement. (Or if this is a reversion... I'm glad we're back to the old way of doing it.) I saw some complaints on the Feedback page, but it almost seems like the critical comments are referring to something else. Either that or I'm missing some nuance. This method is more organized and makes more sense to me. I'm not sure if there are more taps to get the job done, what I am sure of is that this is a far more reliable and consistent UX that feels efficient to me.

I am no longer able to quickly change the colour of a highlight (in a book) by tapping on it and selecting a different colour.

I assumed this was a bug. Does this thread mean it's intentional?

My reading experience has suddenly become very frustrating...

This change was intentional (see discussion above), but we will roll out an update to restore the old functionality of tapping on a highlight to select it.
