Logos 10 Getting Slower or more taxing on CPU/RAM?
Version 32.1.31
TLDR; QUESTION AT BOTTOM.
Hey folks, a good while back (maybe a year or so?) when I updated to Logos 10, I recall that it was as quick as a whip. Super fast. Booting up, loading, switching between bibles (with multiple resources to a link set), etc etc. Mind-blowing speeds (so I left a 5-star review for it).
But lately (in the last month or so at least) I have noticed that anytime I try to switch between resources or even between tabs within a window, it back to the old days again: my computer starts getting REALLY loud, and it has to think for 5-8 seconds before it switches between tabs or before a hyperlink click leads to the appropriate resource being opened (or even switched to if it's already opened as a tab in a window somewhere). (the AMD CPU and the GPU and the RAM are all literally the best and newest that money could buy about 13 months ago... as in I'm a game developer with Unreal Engine 5 and literally have the highest-tech components)
In other words, it seems like things have gone back to the way they were before I upgraded from Logos 9 to Logos 10... slow, sluggish, and resource heavy.
QUESTIONS:
Has anyone else noticed this recently?
Or is anyone aware of anything I can do to resolve this and make it lightening fast like it was back when I first upgraded to Logos 10?
Does anyone know which systems/components Logos tends to hod/use, e.g. CPU vs RAM vs GPU? (I'm sure it's prolly not GPU, but I understand that GPU involvement in computation lately has been changing over the last 2 years or so, so just curious).
Could it be hard drive fullness? (It's on an M.2 PCI SSD so should be the fastest "drive" available).
Could it be the fact that I bought the "extra-biblical greek philosophy library with like a billion resources? (prolly not that since they're never opened and I don't use them, shouldn't cause a long loud delay when switching from an RSV tab to a KJV tab... but IDK)
Has anyone noticed a maximum number of open tabs that can be linked to a "link set" (e.g A, B, etc) without it getting sluggish?
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

It may well be 'hard drive fullness' how much free space do you have on the drive?

Only if downloading those resources actually pushed the SSD to close to full.

Not here but if that even comes on the horizon as possibility then a rethink of workflow is called for. Mentally that cannot be efficient.

Graham, why is this even an option. I for the life of me cannot think of anyone who would want their hardware to run slow. That’s just my two cents!!!

I think there was (possibly even still is) an issue with some graphic drivers. It comes down to the point that all relevant components within the box need to interact and to be able to function at that accelerated mode. This also affected other programs, not just Logos.

Thanks everyone. Tried hardware acceleration. Tried reducing the amount of stuff on my SSD drive (by like 35-40%). Tried reducing the number of open windows/resources to just a half dozen. Tried reducing the number of linked items in a link set to just a few.
Nothing works. [:(]
The program is just running slow in all cases, taking way to long to do things like switch tabs or drag a window/tab into a new position, etc etc and makes my PC sound like it's a 747 preparing for take-off.
Very weird, as it was super fast back when Logos 10 first dropped.

Good timing. I too am experiencing the same slowness. This is a very recent development. I haven't tweeked anything anywhere. I even hid some resources that I will not use in the future hoping that would give me the speed I had before in all things Logos, but to no avail.
mm.

Yeah... I'm wondering if it was caused by me adding that giant library of non-biblical greek language stuff (greek philosophy etc). I know that was biggish and I wonder if it's being factored in actively by Logos' brain in the background. If you "hide" a resource, does that tell Logos to also ignore its existence in terms of background process etc?

I'm also experiencing slowness. Was humming until the last week or so (usually open within 5 seconds). Now takes over 30 seconds to load up upon opening.

Many of the times I've had slow startups, a visual filter was to blame. Look for visual filters across multiple books or across the entire bible that are opened in the startup layout. My library is > 50,000 which I have not found to be a problem. Indexing failure and disk failure have also (rarely) caused slowness for me.

I do not even have an advanced tab in my program settings.

How much free space do you have? When was it last Optimised (Windows Settings > type Defrag).
What does the SSD manufacturer's Toolbox tell you about the drive?

Thank you, Graham. That did it for me.
