Sermon Manager Questions

Long time Logos user, since back in the Libronix days. Currently using Logos 10 along with preaching suite.

i wonder if someone might be able to give me some help?

I have looked at Sermon Builder/Manager several times since it was added, but have never really used it. I have been creating my sermons in Word for years, and am used to doing that, but since the ability to import sermons in Word format into Sermon Manager was added as a feature, I’m thinking Sermon Manager would be helpful in keeping my sermons organised and more easily findable. My current approach makes finding sermons on particular topics really hard to find, unless I can remember when I first preached them.

When watching the Logos video on sermon builder, I had a few questions that I hope someone who uses Sermon Builder may be able to answer for me:

1) The video mentions the sermon being published when the tags and details are filled in. Does that mean that all my sermons in Sermon Manager would then be available to other Logos users? Is there a way for me to use Sermon Manager and not have my sermons viewable by others?

2) Does anyone else create sermons in Word and then import them, how does that work for you, and is the ability of Logos to create slides a good help for getting your PowerPoint done?

3) Has anyone moved away from using Word altogether and now use Sermon Builder, in what ways is it better, or worse?

4) What is it like to preach from Sermon Manager in Logos? I currently preach from my iPad Pro with my word doc imported into Pages, and displayed in presenter mode, with auto scrolling, which works really well for me.  In what way can I preach from my IPad from Sermon Manager in Logos, and what benefits do you find from it.

I’m sorry  to fire so many questions at you, but I feel this is a feature that could be quite powerful, and I would like to try it,  but with the weekly work of writing sermons I don’t want to spend a lot of time going ‘down a rabbit hole’ with Sermon Manager if it’s not going to help me over the longer term.

i appreciate any insights that anyone can give me on Sermon Manager/Builder, that may help me.

Blessings

Duncan

This is entirely in our control as users - we can publish them so they are visible to others or keep them so that only we can see them.

I haven't used Word for writing sermons for many years. I initially shifted to writing them in Logos Notes and then / now in Sermon Builder.

It isn't a fully-fledged Word processor - and Logos doesn't suggest it is - but it provides all the functionality I need for writing the manuscript of a sermon, adding in Bible passages and other references etc. The fact that it is fully integrated into my Logos environment, and searchable, is really useful to me.

We don't preach from Sermon Manager but from a sermon written in Sermon Builder. There is a preaching mode - https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046239932-Preaching-Mode - which works really well for me. As I export Slides created to Proclaim I can control these from Preaching Mode on my iPad.

Again, this is something I have been using for a number of years and really works well for me.

Thanks so much for your reply Graham, that’s really helpful.

It would be really good to be able to drop my scripture verses and quotes straight in from Logos while writing the sermon.

I assume it is only Proclaim slides that can be controlled from preaching mode on the iPad and not PowerPoint slides?

It sounds like it might be worth my trying sermon builder and manager.

    thanks again.

That's right - we can export slides from Logos to PowerPoint but can't control PowerPoint from Logos Preaching mode.

I made a video trying to sell somebody on Logos. The sermon builder stuff starts about 6 minutes in, if you want to see it in action: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7YfOw2-RVYE

until I deliver the sermon it does NOT publish because my default on the tick box is OFF

after I'm done preaching, our team publishes the recording, then it shows in my sermon manager as:

It is then available to the public according to my availability settings:

archive searches and visual creation is the VERY reason why I prefer Sermon Builder/Manager over the older route of creating "Personal Books" from my docx files.  We use PROCLAIM instead of PowerPoint so "your mileage may vary" :D

No, Sermon Builder doesn't handle numbered lists as I like (e.g. 1. a preaching point, next paragraph is a quote or illustration, when I want to pick up at point "2" SB starts the numbering again at 1) nor does it permit tables.

I have a PDF of my Word doc on my tablet, I have the notes and slides of my Sermon Doc in Proclaim on my tablet (much like you are doing with Pages in presenter mode) and I have hard copy for redundancy (my own comfort).

note: yesterday I preached from a new tablet and while I had installed the Proclaim Remote APP, I had forgotten to turn on "notes" in my "presenter mode". [While it was a 3 click solution and I'm ready for next week] I controlled the presentation from the Tablet and preached from my print notes and nobody was the wiser.
