There are also some issues with Wine 9.0 last I knew.

I am thrilled to find this forum! Over the next few weeks, I am switching to Linux and, of course, want to take Logos with me. I will be a lurker and occasional info seeker. Thank you!

Hi everybody. I'm a new Linux user. I have installed Logos 10 software on Linux Mint 21 xfce and installed it successfully. I'm glad I found the installation steps in this forum. However, after I ran the software, Logos seemed to stop at the initial window (logo) and did not enter the software interface. Can anyone help me?

Miguel, you will need to tell us how you installed Logos on your Mint system. Did you use the snap method or the script found at https://github.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller.
Also, there is a bug that prevents the most recent version of Logos to be installed using Wine, so that may be part of your problem. If you are able, sign up on Telegram or Matrix and find the Logos on Linux discussions there. Support is more readily available from users there.

Has anyone tried version 31 or 31.1 ?
I'm glad to say, I'm finally switching fully to Linux! Going with Garuda0 -
I bought a refubished Dell off of Amazon a year or so back. It didn't come with linux, but it's worked fine with Linux Mint on it. I wouldn't worry about buying a Dell for this sort of use...

My Thinkpad T430 works great with Linux. I'm currently using Debian 12. I was on Slackware, MX 21, and Windows 10, using all three drive bays. Nvidia chip does not work on Linux due to the age. Nouveau driver does not work--I just get the blinking cursor or mouse cursor. I don't remember which one to be honest. I can install Logos like the rest of you, but that's it. After that, from the CLI, if I use 'wine Logos.exe' I get an error about not having Mono installed, which is a 32-bit problem, not 64-bit. I used an older Logos 6 installer as that's all I've been able to find so far.

Happy to report that I've got 27.3 installed through Snap on Fedora 39. It took a while, but it worked first time. Many thanks to Nate (n8marti) for all the work to make this possible! So far the only small negative I've noticed is that content (text) scaling is not crisp. Could be a Linux thing? But Logos on Linux, awesome!

You might find enabling font smooth rgb in winetricks resolves this for you.

Ezra,
I used to use "winetricks" from Debian and it had a setting to install mono automatically, which it did OK for me.
Maybe that will help. I am back to using Windows for Logo

Thanks, John. I tried to do that. I found the following, not sure if it's the right one:
/var/lib/snapd/snap/bin/logos10-unofficial.winetricks
Ran: winetricks settings fontsmooth=rgb (also tried bgr, gray, disable)
Terminal showed that processing was going on.
Result was inconclusive, however. Text was always blurred in places.

This has got to be the longest thread in all the forums 😂 85 pages!!! And I thought Moody Titles Leaving was the longest thread 😂

Faithlife should make a Linux version of Logos just because this is the longest thread on the forums. [:P]

Yes, absolutely! Linus has said they have no plans to install a government backdoor in Linux, and that's putting it tactfully. Linux will become increasingly relevant as the G7 continues to ape late Rome.

Also I should say that I am experienced writing Qt in Python (PySide6) and I can be of assistance if needed. I'm no stranger to C++ too, though, and I think Qt works better with manual garbage collection anyway.

The next alpha version of the Python program has been released.
https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/releases/tag/v4.0.0-alpha.3
This release fixes one piece of major functionality and two minor issues. It also incorporates numerous fixes to the code and in general is pretty stable. It is still an alpha release and there are known issues, either stored in TODOs and FIXMEs in the code or in the issue tracker on GitHub.
At this point, the code should be mature enough that it can for most purposes replace the Bash script.
With this release, we are also asking for community help. These two issues are general issues indicating the need for testing.- https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/issues/1
- https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/issues/2
What we particularly need to verify are which packages are necessary to run Logos for our various distros, and that all features are indeed working.
If you have an interest in helping, we're glad to have your assistance, for no member of the body can say they do not need each other.
I have also created an install guide at the following link in the wiki.
https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/wiki/Install-Guide
May this release bless your endeavors to bring glory to the Lord through the ministry of the Word, which is able to make us wise unto salvation. If you have questions, please join us in Telegram or Matrix.
PRs are welcome.0 -
Taylor, how can we help? What's involved?

The main things we need help testing are found in the following two Git issues.
https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/issues/1
https://github.com/FaithLife-Community/LogosLinuxInstaller/issues/2
The main gist of what we need help testing is whether or not we have all necessary packages to run on the given distributions (or if there are packages which need pruned), and then verifying that every option works as intended. Nate and I have done various amounts of testing, depending on what has needed work, but we never know if we miss something! So we need to verify that all the CLI optargs work, that all the TUI options work, and that all the GUI options work.
Once we have these issues done, we will be fairly close to releasing a beta version of the script, at which point most of what we need to do is fix a few issues in the code and some minor features/enhancements.
The last major alpha feature we plan to add is a button to update the program in place, so that users don't have to visit GitHub to download a new version.
Any feedback you have can be reported in Telegram/Matrix or on GitHub. We ask for steps to reproduce issues you find and, if possible, run the commands with the -D|--debug flag in order to get more verbose logging. Log files can be found in ~/.local/state/Logos_on_Linux/Logos_on_Linux.log.

(Edited) I suppose I should use the install guide and try to install it? Do I need to uninstall my existing program first?
Do I need to test every permutation of the options?
How do I tell what to report? Sorry, this is new to me.

I'd be happy to test some things out. I'd probably only be helpful testing GUI stuff. I imagine I would need to delete my current Logos install that was done via an earlier script version?

I'm installing on Garuda (Arch-based) and it is at the point that its actually downloading my library. I might be to take Logos off my Win10 Virtual Machine!
I used the TUI. Once it is done downloading, I will let ya know how it is running.
I'm also running KDE6 on an NVIDIA 3060 Mobile/Max-Q (my next laptop will be AMD GPU)0 -
So far the application is running, seems a bit slow compared to the windows edition, but its running!
One strange bug, is that I get a popup that tells me the installation has failed, and then I click ok, and it lets me keep using the program. So I don't know what that is about, but so far it hasn't caused anything catastrophic0 -

This is likely because the Linux installation is stuck on Logos version 29 and will not install version 30 or above.
