LibraryIndex itself has 4gb

Resource Manager has 16.3gb

How do I minimize this? I have tons of books but I only use a few.

THANKS!

Go to the library and right-click books you don't use, then click "remove from this device." If you put "type:media OR type:course" in the library pane and remove those resources you will probably find those video resources are the ones taking up the most space. You can hold down CTRL or CMD and click multiple books, then right click them and remove them all from your device. They will still show up in an all search and can be downloaded again at any time.

no, the standard multiple select techniques work on Windows.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

No, as stated above. But let me show you resources over 200 MB in size:

    • Lexham Geographic commentaries
    • resources with maps/atlases  e.g. Carta, ESV Bible Atlas, especially BiblicalPlacesMaps (400 MB).
    • ESV Study Bible or ESV Global Study Bible Notes  (but, I would never delete the first one).

If it is too daunting, the other option is to uninstall Logos and reinstall it, but to select "download minimal resources" or something like that, then download the ones you want instead of having them all and deleting the ones you don't.

If you're worried about 25 GB of space, you might be surprised to know that you can get a 512 gb SSD and upgrade your existing computer for about $50.

Good advice, I'll probably do that with my laptop.

As I understand, adding the SSD is not enough, but Logos data has to be in the C:\ drive in the PC. Therefore, reinstalling also the operating system is needed?

Logos can be installed on drives other then C:\ ... I have a large SSD divided into two partitions C:\ and D:\. At installation, instead of using the default location, I selected the option to install Logos in D:\logos.  This put the Logos folders into D:\logos.

Ok, thanks a lot! This is even better. I can add an SSD or two into my desktop!

Whoa!  Logos is not that big Smile

Command "Delete Unlicensed Resources" reduced my Logos4 folder size on macOS Ventura 13.6.5 from 183.09 GB to 182.82 GB.

Thank you, Justin, this was helpful (saved 2,5 GB of space!).

Does anybody know of any way how to determine the size of individual resources? (I know I can use the "download minimal resources" option, but I would prefer to do manually delete them (and know which ones are deleted). And there's no point in deleting 20 small resources, if there is a giant one that if it gets deleted, would release much space.)

In File Explorer (or Mac equivalent),  open the Resources folder at ...Logos\Data\randomId\ResourceManager\Resources   (Logos4 on Mac).

Sort by Size, but note that you only consider files with suffix:

    *.logos4
    *.lbxlls
    *.lbspbb   ---> Personal Books
    *.lbsclv
    *.lbxtml
    *.lbshtm
    *.lbsmps
    *.lbsspd

If you consider CARTASACREDBRIDGE.logos4, then type/paste CARTASACREDBRIDGE in the Command Box to get its title in Library.

I have an SD card slot in my laptop. The card shows up as D:\ in the explorer. Would that work, even when it is not permanent?

Not recommended. They are not designed for the random access required by data files.

If you want want to assign a permanent drive letter, use WIN key+X > Disk Management, then right-click the drive and select Change drive letter...

External removable storage is not really recommended ... the situation I mentioned about installing on D:\ refers to a partition on an  internal SSD. If external SSD drive is attached (via modern fast USB connection slot), I would think that one should assign a permanent drive letter to that removable SSD so that the SSD always is assigned the same drive designation when being used.

I am not sure whether a SD card would work.

I am not sure whether a SD card would work.

An 128 GB SDXC card was available in a local shop at 25 dollars, so I decided to make a try. Loading and indexing took around 10 hours, the directory is 62 GB.

Seems to work fine. Generally slower than the desktop, but the loading of the layouts maybe faster, probably due to the smaller screen.

My laptop is 6 years old, but I like it, and I currently plan to keep it for a while. I do not recommend this SD card solution, but for me it will work as a temporary fix. I normally use desktop with 3 screens in the city, but the laptop is in use in my summer log cabin.

Looks like the engine update does not work, but I am not sure yet. The automatic update may not recognize my installation path in D:\Logos

Check if your SD card is not formatted to NTFS, but rather ExFAT or such file system. Automatic update of Logos only works on NTFS formatted drives.

Well, it is exFAT. I am old, but it is good to learn something new!

At some point when I have time I'll reformat the SD card to NFTS and reinstall Logos. Then I'll let you know how it works!

Well, I did this. The NFTS seems to work a bit faster, but still Logos does not update the engine (to Beta).

For me this situation is fine. I've set the update channel to none, and I can enjoy Logos the whole short Finnish summer in the log cabin without the Beta bugs (which are quite rare anyway in these days).

    But, some mosquitos, I suppose.

    [:D] yes, abundantly.

I was Africa working for Wycliffe Bible Translators in IT support long time ago, and one bonus of that service was that I brought back some mosquito nets. Using it over the bed in the log cabin when needed. But now, after your comment, I think I could use one in the porch. Might look funny, but fortunately neighbors are far away.

Interesting where these conversations go... Albeit somewhat off topic.  I was in the big country, in East Asia for 12 years... Now working with an org - focusing on the most prosecuted nation - also same region.

If you have used Mobile Ed courses videos you will have gobbled up a lot of MB.  Logos tech helped me with this issue a while back, saying there is a folder that can be safely deleted.  But sorry to say, I don't remember which folder it is.  They will help if you call.

Today i tried to uninstall Logos in that computer. It does not uninstall, just gives a bunch of error messages. I'll just remove the shortcut to start Logos and remove the SD card. But the Logos system designers might want to know this.

Edit: After that unsuccessful uninstall, I started Logos and it was running and adding books. Then, after closing Logos, it appears to be uninstalled

I doubt it as external/removable drives are not supported.

Does the Uninstall option appear in Control Panel > Programs and Features (or Settings > Apps > Installed Apps)?  It may ask to be removed if it cannot perform the action. You can also remove the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Logos4 from Regedit.

Logos is not visible in the Programs and features. It appears that Logos wanted to update itself before closing and uninstalling.

After all, this is not very important - I am just uninstalling apps and removing data before this old laptop goes to one of the grandchildren or so.

By the way, one grandson said that he cannot use the mouse or does not want to use the mouse. This may indicate that more touchscreen PCs will be bought in the future and Logos may do well in developing the touchscreen features in order to attract future theologians.
