How do I turn indexing on while on battery power

I looks like the default setting for my mac book is set to disable indexing when I am on battery power.

It there a way to turn it on. The reason I ask is because if you leave your power cord plugged in after the battery is fully charged you will ruin the life of your battery, shorten it.

Not true with new batteries--especially Apple Batteries. Have controls to manage battery charging.

In order to get battery out I have to unscrew the back, it is not an easy drop out battery.

Hi Michael,
Are you sure, because I was reading on the Mac website of those who purchased battery and it was very short lived. The suggestion, which I thought was from a Mac technician said that it sould be unplugged after charged. But I will check again, thanks.

Check the battery management pages on Mac101.

Batteries do not over charge.

Do not run batteries right down unnecessarily.

Do not run laptops without a battery.

Do not listen to Old Wives Tales about battery management.

Logos is hard on batteries because it does some powerful computing when indexing and the unwary might miss the battery running down. Note Apple usually ask you to plug the laptop in before updating the operating system.

I'd probably check your specific manual that came with your machine. I've had multiple MacBook Pros over the years and they've varied somewhat in their handling. I had some systems that recommended a specific conditioning (charge and rundown 2 full cycles before use) and others where they don't.

The big reason I check is I've had poor luck with Apple batteries and the Applecare doesn't cover it. I've bought and replaced far too many batteries for my liking. They seem to vary for me even when the recommended care has been the same.

I believe the sense of that statement is that you should occasionally run your laptop from battery power so that the battery experiences electron flow. It is not a warning concerning over charging.
