The Seven Storey Mountain

"A modern-day Confessions of Saint Augustine, The Seven Storey Mountain is one of the most influential religious works of the twentieth century. It tells of the growing restlessness of a brilliant and passionate young man whose search for peace and faith leads him, at the age of twenty-six, to take vows in one of the most demanding Catholic orders--the Trappist monks. At the Abbey of Gethsemani, the four walls of my new freedom; Thomas Merton struggles to withdraw from the world, but only after he has fully immersed himself in it. The Seven Storey Mountain has been a favorite of readers ranging from Graham Greene to Claire Booth Luce, Eldridge Cleaver, and Frank McCourt. Since its original publication this timeless spiritual tome has been published in over twenty languages and has touched millions of lives."

I'm surprised this hadn't been requested on Feedbear yet. It has been requested on the forums several times: here and here and here and here and here (yes, three of those were by me).

The Sign of Jonas

This diary of a monastic life is “a continuation of The Seven Storey Mountain . . . Astonishing” (Commonweal).

Chronicling six years of Thomas Merton’s life in a Trappist monastery, The Sign of Jonas takes us through his day-to-day experiences at the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, where he lived in silence and prayer for much of his life.

These have been suggested before; it had 10 votes from a suggestion in Uservoice back in 2019, but I am sure I suggested it long ago in the early 2010s as well. Seven Storey Mountain is a perennial classic and by far his most selling book, followed up distantly by his New Seeds of Contemplation (vote here) and No Man is an Island (already in Logos).

Something else that Logos could get (at little cost) is the audio recordings of his conferences to novices. I have listened to them on CD and the recordings are quite good. He gave classes on poetry, on prayer, on the twelve steps of humility, literally hours of his recorded lectures. Logos would have minimal production costs to need covered to make these available.

I don't vote for many books these days because my buying habits have changed a bit. (Perhaps more on this in another thread.) However, I eagerly voted for these because they really should be in the Logos world.

    Thanks!

There is also the existing Thomas Merton Collection (7 vols.) of books by and about Merton.

And the Initiation into the Monastic Tradition (9 vols.) collection is all by Thomas Merton.
