How do you use Collections?

I have five Collections that I've made from resources in my library:

Patristics
Dogmatics
Ministry
Luther [i.e., just works authored by Martin Luther]
Other Resources

"Ministry" is not well thought-out, and "Other Resources" is a catch-all for books I might want to consult that don't fit the other categories. But I haven't kept these up as I've added new resources, and once "Systematic theologies" dataset came out "Dogmatics" became a bit redundant.

I suspect I'm not using Collections as well as I could.

What I'm looking for is this: How do you organize your collections? How do you use them? How can I make mine better?

I don't. Tagging is easier, more precise, and more practical. Yes, time-consuming but pays off.

If you aren't aware you can also use tags within Collection rules.

So you could, for example, tag a range of books with a specific tag and then use that tag as part of your rule to include those books. If you then tag another book with that tag it will be included in the Collection.

I use the collection rules from the Wiki and a custom passage guide, so I get my technical commentaries first, then intermediate, and then expository. It helps with my workflow.

I use collections regularly to work them into some guides. I've got collections for favorite books, favorite authors, favorite commentaries. If I've got a class I'm teaching or a sermon series, I often create a collection of resources for that series. What's great about collections is since they use rules, they will automatically update based upon the tag, author or whatever I put in there.
