Struggling with Labels and Tags

I've been using Logos 10 Academic Essentials, for a few months for personal studies. I've read/watched a bunch of articles, posts, and tutorials on tags and labels, but I'm more confused than ever about how automatic tags work. Logos is wonderful software and like any complex package, it's taken a while to adjust to its methods.  I'm probably doing something wrong.

Right now, I apply highlights for my search markers that include labeling so I can quickly find these items via the Notes tab Filters selection.  It's quick, simple, and wonderful when it works, but the automatically applied tags aren't included in the filters list.

One example under that is tagging verses based on a devotional with verses to memorize. I have a highlight named Memorize (Label "Memorize", Tag of Text type and name Memorize.)

When I apply this highlight and then select Open Notes and Highlights, It shows

Sometimes, the tag Memorize will show when I hover the cursor or right click to get the prompt, but it's not consistent, even after waiting a while.

Also, as far as I can tell, if a highlight or note has this format, it does not add to the Notes tab Filter list and never appears in that tag list if I click on Memorize:

When I add a tag manually, it immediately shows up in the Notes tab filter list, in the hover prompt, and in the right click prompt. The tabs field also has a different format:

Is there a way to change my highlight settings so the applied tag automatically appears in the Notes tab filter list?

Correct. Label values do not get added to the Notes tool Filters list. It does not matter that the label attribute is called Tag.

You can Search the bible for label values e.g. label.Memorize:tag:memorize, but not the Notes tool.

If you want, you can use Add tags to apply a value to multiple notes after selecting them in the tool.

Thank you!  I can live with that once I correct the existing tags and labels. However, I've got 1,156 highlights, with probably half that need a tag added. If they're missing the tag, I can't find a way to do batch edits.

I'm probably missing something, but here's a short summary:

    • In the Search window, I can search for labels and highlights. (but not tags.)
    • I can't edit or select items for batch edits in the Search window.
    • I read some tips about sending searches from the Search window to the Notes window, but that might be something from previous versions or I've completely misunderstood the post.
    • Searching for Label:labelname or Highlight:highlightname in the Notes window search bar fails to show results even when that search works in the search tab.  Narrowing through filters for Bible chapter or tags was no help.
    • The Notes panel lists all my highlights and notes, but I cannot sort by type, which would solve the issue, too.
    • The help for the notes panel says there's a search bar, but offers no help on syntax or scope of that search.  I've tried searching for help on this in the forum and haven't found what I need.
    • Even if I get a search to the Notes window, batch editing eliminates the Label field for batch editing.  Even though the labels can get complex, it sure feels like a missing feature given the importance of labels in the system.

How do I search for labels or highlights in the Notes tab so I can edit tags?

Is there a way to batch edit labels?

You can use  mytag:memorize  in a Docs Search for tags in the Filters list.

Click the Notes item to search other documents.

I can't edit or select items for batch edits in the Search window.

The batch edit I described was in the Notes tool.

I read some tips about sending searches from the Search window to the Notes window, but that might be something from previous versions or I've completely misunderstood the post.

Searching for Label:labelname or Highlight:highlightname in the Notes window search bar fails to show results even when that search works in the search tab.  Narrowing through filters for Bible chapter or tags was no help.

You can't use the Notes window for searches that come from the Search tab. The "Search" box in Notes is restricted to text you enter in your notes.

The Notes panel lists all my highlights and notes, but I cannot sort by type, which would solve the issue, too.

You can't Filter for highlight styles in the Notes tool, which would be very helpful.

The help for the notes panel says there's a search bar, but offers no help on syntax or scope of that search.  I've tried searching for help on this in the forum and haven't found what I need.

It is restricted to text you enter in your notes. The syntax is text only e.g. 2 peter 1:17 for a reference that is entered exactly like that. You can search for bible:"2 Pe 1:17" only in the Docs Search.

Even if I get a search to the Notes window, batch editing eliminates the Label field for batch editing.  Even though the labels can get complex, it sure feels like a missing feature given the importance of labels in the system.

    I agree

How do I search for labels or highlights in the Notes tab so I can edit tags?

Is there a way to batch edit labels?

It is not possible to do either.
