How to write a Search Query

How do I write a query that performs?:

mercy WITHIN 10 WORDS (love AND forgiveness AND Grace)

In other words I want to find all (mercy, love, forgiveness and grace) very close to together in my library (Basic Search. I know that if I write mercy love forgiveness grace it will find them in the same article but I am looking for a little more than that. It is almost like I am looking for a topic search.

Well, using just what you said I got 79,637 results in 1799 articles in 542 resources.

I think your first step is to narrow you search. Maybe do it in just a few resources like your favorite writers or commentaries.

Using NEAR instead of WITHIN 10 words just under 24,000 hits.

Another question: How many years to you want to spend researching this topic? You could in fact spend a lifetime.

One thing you could do would be to set "match case" and search your bible dictionaries.

Capitalizing tends to get headings.

you could create a PG with only definition in the body of it... and cause it to search only your bible dictionaries....and use that...

Wow, wonderful. Now that I see it, it is easy. Running it on my library gives me only 36 articles in 31 resources. Working your way through that is a manageable task.

Add word 1

Enter the gloss <forgiveness OR grace OR love>

Add word 2 (any word) and select repeats 0-10 times. This simply means there can be anywhere from 0 to five words between any of the glosses in word 1 and word 3

Add word 3 (same as word 1)

In each case be sure to select "matching skips levels"

Even using collections, simple queries can generate results lists that are impossible to process. And often one does not want to be limited by collection boundaries.

As our libraries grow larger and larger the problem will only become more acute.
