Feeling Nostalgic: What Was Your First Logos Order?

I sometimes go back and look at my order histories from various places just to see what I was doing at certain times or what my interests were, so I thought it would be interesting to see how people came to Logos originally, and what you ordered on your very first order (available under Order History-Show All).

Keep in mind that orders which weren't done online or through a salesperson may not show up on your orders page, so you can guesstimate. I think we have at least one person here who beta tested the original version 1 handed over via a disk.

How I came to Logos:

I was starting seminary in 2007, so I wanted to see what was available for Bible software (I had used PC Study Bible and Quickverse in the past). I Googled "top bible software" and found a handful of options, picking Logos because of the interconnectedness of the books and the "research library" focus. I also think I got a steep discount at the time through Liberty.

I can't remember the year, but it was Logos 1.6 on floppy. I think it may have been the KJV & Strongs. I also attended the first Camp Logos in Oak Harbor, WA when Bob P presented the new 2.0. Many changes over the years.

Mine was a scholars library, something about series x, around 2002–2003, can remember if this was a part of Libronix 3.0 or something just before it. Not even sure about the series x part. Anyway, I sold an old truck to buy it.

Scholar's Library (KF)

Six month's later, smitten, I zoomed all the way up to Scholar's Library: Platinum (KF)

I tinkered with Libby on and off before that, but had a family, was busy, eSword was free, and I had a library full of paper books.

But, I was teaching in multiple language contexts and a friend who had attended Seminary in middle-aged years insisted I that was making a mistake by not to investing in Logos. I trusted him. He taught me quickly how to use it. Logos opened up a world of study and discovery like a child passing through a closet door and entering Narnia. Lights came on. A swell of music rose to the rafters. The rest is history. I don't own a pickup truck--for the same price, I own Logos instead.

I too vaguely remember tinkering with Libby umpteleven years ago. My first “purchase” in Logos though, was a free book, Heaven: Where It Is, Its Inhabitants, and How to Get There, back in 2013.

June 2002 - Series X, Scholar's Edition.

I don't know the exact date because I bought it from a 3rd party Christian Bookstore reseller.

When Logos 3 came out, I think my first biggest purchases were Anchor Bible Dictionary, Galaxie Journals and Word Biblical Commentary - Again, I believe these all came on CD ROM and were third party resellers. You installed them and then backed up your licenses to a floppy disk.

Before this I had PC Study Bible, QuickVerse and WordSearch. I did like WordSearch in its heyday. Anyhow, along with BibleWorks, these are all names that are no more, leaving Accordance as the only one left standing.

In the mid 2000s I shifted from Windows to Mac, so I bought into Accordance because Logos 1.x for Mac was very limited, and when feature parity was sought with Logos 4.0 Mac, it was very, very painful. Because I was engaged in formal studies at the time, I used Logos primarily as my seminary library and Accordance for exegetical studies. I loved Accordance as it was very like what I saw Windows users appreciate about BibleWorks.

Fast forward, Logos is no longer just a seminary library for me and I am not certain that Accordance is out of harms way as they slip further and further behind. I am glad that I invested in Logos years ago and I am hopeful that as they update their business model that they will be around for a very long time!

I want to say it was early- to mid-2014. I purchased Logos Standard Gold in preparation for starting seminary in the Fall. I believe it was Logos 5 at that point.

I started with Barclay’ Daily Study Bible on 3.5” floppy. Currently at about 15000 resources. I’ve owned Quick Verse (I liked the 1990 dos version better than the later library version), Bible works, biblesoft, olivetree, Wordsearch (thank you Logos for buying them out when they were floundering), and Accordance. Olive tree and logos are the only ones I can currently use (I can’t get the current version on accordance to install properly on an m3 air). While Logos has always been a good program I’ve enjoyed watching dramatic improvements in features, usability (especially search), and speed (3 second load times).

Logos Scholar’s Edition in 2004, then sold it and started buying again in 2007 or 2008, I can’t remember. It was Libronix series X Gold then Logos 4 Platinum if memory serves me correctly. I’ve been building my library ever since!

I found out recently (if I remember right) that I'm Logos user #189. My 1st purchase was in 1994, a Logos Language (Greek/Hebrew) pack in 1.9 (also, if I remember right).

Same with me. I think Logos brought out Logos 2.0 after it purchased CDWord Library. I know I got all the upgrades after that: Series X, Libronix, Logos 4, etc, but don't know what I purchased early on.

I did get in on their first pre-pub, the Theological Dictionary of the NT by Kittel. $100 at the time, which seemed like a deal. I did pick up some resources from other sources once those started coming out. It really wasn't until 3.0 that I started using Logos for much. That was the time I started building my Logos library seriously.

Of course, we had to wait for some highly desired resources, often years. The resources we now have we could only wish for back in Logos 2, Series X, and Libronix days. I certainly made good use of the pre-pub program back then as more and more resources I wanted were only possible to obtain if enough of us signed up.

It was with Libronix that I finally convinced a few church members to purchase the software. There were some good buys on collections created by other publishers back then which most of them added. For over two years we held monthly user group meetings at church to help them get the most out of the software.

Well, that's enough nostalgia for today.

I think it was in 2010 I've bought SESB Libronix which was not exactly Logos but gradually drifted to Logos 4 and then expanded to Gold and many additions.

Logos 3 Scholars on CD from a local Christian bookstore was my first purchase, in 2008.

Prior to that I used QuickVerse. And before that it was a program that ran under GWBasic, and I added a HDD (20MB) to my PC specifically so I could search the Bible without changing floppies (around 1986/7).

Logos had enabled me to reseach in ways that were not practical for any previous generation of Bible scholars.

Back then you got multiple CD's filled with titles you could pay to unlock. That all went away at some point.

Mine wasn't so much a Logos order as it was the fact that I bought some sort of "MacArthur Bible Study" or some such thing many years ago on CD (shortly after 2000 I think?), and it was Libronix-based (still looking very much like Windows 3.1, know what I mean?) which introduced me to Logos. There were a few CDs like that, bought from my local Christian bookstore.

In 2003 I downloaded a bunch of freebies and that began acttual purchases from Logos itself, including Logos Silver and then Gold later on. I've even toured Logos headquarters when I visited my brother in western Canada for my 50th birthday. That was a whole lot of fun!

Now moved over to the subscription model, with over 8000 books in my library. Logos has been a blessing the whole time, although I remain STILL a very much paper-based Bible student. But Logos is my Great Encyclopaedia with that!

Nelson's Ultimate Bible Reference on CD-ROM, which I bought from Wesley Owen at Spring Harvest 2001 in Skegness for a special conference price of 10 pounds.

Back in September of 2010 my wife bought me The Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible (SESB), Version 3.0 (52 vols.) for my birthday.

Later the following year I bought Original Languages Library (JG) I think that was logos 4?

Wish Logos would have continued offering Original language packages, but for whatever reason(s) that base package line was dropped.

My first one was in 2001 (Logos 2), before Series X and Libronix came out. It was on a CD or maybe more than one.

The first one in my order history is from 2006:

I had it in mind that I'd just have a bunch of these classic extra biblical texts and old commentaries from the 19th/early 20th century, but here I am 7000 books later. I don't know how that happened.

The first I bought was SESB on CD-ROM (I think it was SESB 2.0 in a yellow jewel case with an upgrade CD included to move up to SESB 3.0) in a sale event at the Christian bookstore in the next larger town. This of course wouldn't show in my order history. If memory serves well, Logos 4 was already out at this time, at any rate I didn't actually use the Libronix software much. My first two orders on Logos.com in February of 2011 were free books, including the LEB and the SBLGNT, then I got me a "Minimal Crossgrade" package - for $70 - since I ran Logos 4. My order history shows that back then we could buy functionality add-ins like a graphical query editor (which I have no idea what this could do and why I bought it) and the Greek pronunciation.
