TDOT: Managing the Index Volume

I'm sure almost no one will have this issue, but just in case, down the road.

When they introduced the TDOT Index volume (17), they put it in the same series as the other 2 resources (hebrew and aramaic).

This had the unfortunate result of:

- Being displayed in the right-click menu, if the TDOT hebrew or aramaic were prioritized (effectively removing another lexicon of the 5 possible)

- If your layout had TDOT hebrew in it, selecting the right-click TDOT-index choice would overlay the TDOT-hebrew

- If you linked either of the TDOT volumes, the TDOT Index volume would force them all to itself (powerful software, eh?)

Initially, I hid the TDOT Index volume just for sanity. But then I remembered in Logos, 'Series' do the overlaying ... I'd just never seen it in action, for a lexicon. So I un-hid the Index volume, and took it out of the TDOT series.

Works.

I'd forgotten about the index volume and wondered why I bought it. I think I'll rename it to highlight the really great indices ... list of Hittite words, as an example. Ethiopic. What Egyptian texts were cross-referenced. Akkadian writings. Unfortunately the indices aren't indexed (Logos) ... beggars can't be choosers.

Indeed it is. I'm a little slow. What behavior are you manipulating by removing it from the series? I don't see the benefit.

Edit: I have TDOT prioritized 7 resources deep. Is this why I don't see the DMB effect?

I had to read your post carefully over and again until I gleaned the sense of it. Your point is that the index takes priority over the dictionary both on right click context menu and when linked to the dictionary presumably because it is in the same series as the dictionary. You eliminate this problem by removing the index from the series. Is that right?

Edit: Sorry for being a pest, but would you mind posting case points for each DMB effects? A picture is worth a thousand...

It's been a while. I think the problem was the unique duplication of lemmas between volumes in the series. I renamed mine to 'Cognate Languages Index for Hebrew (TDOT)' That's not quite applicable but reminds me when I can't remember who has those lists!

Added: Again looking at the volume's riches, I'm truly amazed. The front-face of Logos is a somewhat complicated study-your-Bible app. But deep in the dark tunnels underneath, spreading through out the thousands of books, are 'links'!

I went thru greek/roman writings, and I have most! How'd that happen? I guess the magic of Logos.

Edit again: This resource really highlights the linking issues and a user (me). For example I've been busy looking at Arad ostraca both the Hebrew Inscriptions volume, as well as imagery in Accordance. I didn't realize those fragments (having a unique index) were each being discussed in TDOT. I'm not even sure how back linking would be created (or worthwhile).

Good tip. I just added "Index" to the series name for the Index. Menu works nicely now.
