Hi all I'm wondering if you're anybody can help me
I'm looking to do a search where the kings of Israel did evil are good in the side of the Lord
I'm interested in finding out how I can do this if anybody can help please
This may be a case where you would want to try 'Smart Search' in the web app (if you are an early subscriber to Logos Max or Pro). From this, you could read the list of results to fact check and maybe even transition to some precise searches to insure you have collected a full list and references. You could reverse it for when they followed God.
There may be another way to construct this search, perhaps starting with a list of Kings, but when I am not sure this is where I often start with Smart Search to get me going.
For comparison, I gave Smart Search a compound query. I am not sure the 'good' list is that strong in this answer. To compare, you can use Smart Search or Precise Search to generate a list of resources which provide lists of the Kings of Israel. It is not a perfect technology, and is mainly a launch point for further enquiry.
Or you might find this search string ("right" OR "did good") AND "eyes of the Lord" helpful in a Bible Search
That's a very good explanation. It would be nice to have a Syntax or something to make it easier.
But this is a very good solution
Thanks 👍
I played with a precise search, but you need to check your results and which versions you use. For example, here are two that vary with 'good AND right', - one is in the sight of God, the other is good, right, and true before Yahweh.
You will definitely need to check the results to insure that the hits are comprehensive, which is why I started with Smart Search unearthing a bunch of examples.
If it was me, I'd probably create a list in a spreadsheet or something, and work my way through all the kings, citing references. That is of course if you want to comprehensively cover them all in regard to your study objectives.
that's very good. I can search both or other words like it. in one search. I did a couple of exact searches before but always felt I was missing some.
thanks again for your help
this is very useful

Unfortunately, the primary problem is outside Logos' control. The conversion of natural English language into proper logical expressions is the most frequent cause of problems. For example (and I apologize for using your example, Donovan) the condition "which kings of Israel did good or evil in the sight of God?" literally includes all kings of Israel who had one or more actions that were not neutral in God's judgment. But what it actually wants is something more like "which kings of Israel does Scripture describe as doing good in the sight of God and which kings of Israel does scripture describe as doing evil in the sight of God?" What you are wanting is an overall evaluation of their reign and an expressed evaluation (good/evil) of it. One doesn't need to express the search argument in precise, logical computerese but one must give the computer a reasonable chance of guessing what you really meant. That is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to converting natural English into a precise English for a search argument.
Thanks for the input
I will try all these avenues
I am kinda learning the basics of logos so I am gaining new skills all the time
many thanks i
I appreciate the input
