Bug: Deleting Paragraphs in Sermon Editor
Logos Bible Study 36.0 Beta 1
36.0.635
(Update channel: beta)
In sermon editor, deleting whole paragraphs is behaving wonky.
If I select one or more entire paragraphs and backspace, delete, or cut, nothing happens. If I do it again, with the same selection, it seems to work. Once I did it with an overlapping selection, and only the selection that was deleted "twice" got deleted. Very strange. New paragraphs that I write can be deleted normally.
It seems to be a problem if I drag-select. If I double-click to select a paragraph, it works fine.
It also affects things like changing the font, so it seems to be an issue of the selection not really selecting anything.
Is this happening to anyone else?

Thanks for the report Robert,
This seems to be working for me, but maybe there's something unique to your sermon that's causing this. If you're comfortable doing so, would you please post a quick screenshot your sermon with a section that's giving you trouble?

As you can see in the video above, the issue seems to have to do with selections not actually being activated, in which case the action (backspace, delete, cut, italicize) is applied to the previously applied selection.

Brandon, have you been able to confirm this behavior? This is still a significant issue for me a week later.

I just made my own post on this without realizing you'd already mentioned it.
It happens when you drag-select from the end of a paragraph to the beginning.

Thanks for following up. This looks super frustrating. I'm still not able to reproduce this here, though I'm not sure why, as you seem to be able to do so regularly.
Would you please send me your log files? You can post them here instead of emailing them to support.

Does this work?

This kind of thing has been happening to me for a while. It changes how it behaves sometimes too. This morning, if I select more than 10 words (or perhaps it's when the selection goes onto a new line), it deletes correctly. But when I select only a few words and hit backspace, it only deletes a single letter.
Log files sent in via email.

Thanks for the feedback.
I can see from Ryan's logs that this is on v35 as well as v36 (beta). I still haven't been able to reproduce it on any platform in any version, but I'll keep trying.

It's been a month and this is still happening. What do you advise going forward?
Do you think it's a problem on my end? Should I uninstall and reinstall Logos to see if that fixes it?
I am tired of dealing with this... I've learned to select text by dragging right to left, but I have to think it shouldn't have to be this way...

Perhaps a phone call to Customer Services where they would be able to screen share with you would allow them to replicate the problem on their systems?

I'm sorry you are still having trouble. I've still not been able to reproduce this, and I took another look at your logs and nothing stood out.
An uninstall / reinstall might be worth a shot, but I'm not particularly optimistic about that solving your problem. If you do go that route, you might try switching to the stable build to see if that's any better. That said, I'll give this another pass. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

Just to be clear, it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't, and I can't figure out a pattern. You may need to spend more time working on a sermon document before it starts happening. When it starts happening, it happens pretty consistently, at least for a while.

I may have figured it out... I think it occurs when you drag select from any direction, but you let go of the mouse button when the cursor is over a different pane than the sermon builder.

I will also say, this is a recurring issue where the active pane loses focus too easily. I hope you fix the root cause.
- When scrolling in other panes (BUG: Hover Scrolling Activates Window - Logos Forums)
- When accessing the formatting menu in Sermon Builder (Bug: Sermon Editor Text Format Overflow Dropdown Unresponsive - Logos Forums)
- Here, when the cursor is over another pane when the pointer is released.

To replicate:
- Create a Sermon document.
- Open the Highlight tool next to the Sermon document.
- Type two lines of text in the Sermon document.
- Double-click to select a word in the first line of text (but don't do anything else).
- Now drag to select the second line of text, starting at the end and dragging to the left, to over the Highlight tool. The second line of text should appear blue, as if it were selected.
- Now press the BACKSPACE button.
- Rather than deleting the selected second line of text, the previously selected word will be deleted instead.

Brandon, would you mind confirming that you've seen these latest posts and are able to reproduce the issue?
