Official: Early access updates and subscription pricing

Thanks so much for your patience as we’ve been preparing for the new era of Logos! Today I’ve got two big updates to share with you:

Pricing details

First, on early access:

We’re closing early access to our new subscriptions on October 4 to get everything prepped for when we fully launch subscriptions in the fall. If you’re already on early access, no action is required. Your subscription will continue without any interruption.

On the topic of perks, we shared in prior posts about a 5% reward coupon that’s based on your previous year’s spend. If you’ve already started a subscription, we’re showing our appreciation by retroactively starting the 5% annual reward clock to the date your Pro or Max subscription started.

And now, about our subscription pricing details:

We wanted to honor those who've been loyal to Logos and keep to the spirit of dynamic pricing. This means all customers who own a base package will receive special pricing on our new subscriptions.

Logos 10 owners, as we’ve already announced, will receive the best subscription prices based on the feature set they own.

Logos 10 owners will also receive a better price on any subscription where they don’t qualify for the Logos 10 price.

Customers who own any base package (no matter which version or level) will also receive a better price.

Here are the details:

When I initially subscribed during the early access there was no two year option. When the new subscriptions come online will I be able to extend my subscription to the two year subscription?

I have to go back to a question I asked in another thread though that I never did get an answer to from Faithlife, and it's a legitimate question. This applies to those like myself that are Logos 10 full feature set owners who don't want the A.I. features, don't want the rented books, can honestly care less about the 5% discounts, don't care about the extra free book per month, don't want the available courses in the subscriptions, etc. In light of these things, why should we risk paying for a subscription for 2 years (whether upfront or spread out) to get keepable features that fall under the Legacy Fallback License, when we don't know in advance what every single one of those keepable features are? I ask this not only to get an answer to the question, but also because to have a deadline to choose to pay for a discounted subscription, in light of everything I've mentioned, just doesn't look right, and it brings the risk of buyer's remorse (imagine spending a lot of money for what you don't know specifically what you're paying for).

With all due respect, I'm not sure what kind of answer Faithlife could give to a question like this. If you don't care at all about AI features and subscription perks, you might consider just finding contentment with the full feature set, knowing it won't be expanded upon in the future.

My personal advice would be to give the subscription a try for two years and see what you think at the end. One thing to consider is that you will receive 4 years of development in the LFL for the price of two (the previous two years + the coming two years). All things considered, it's a pretty attractive package for the price.

If all of the keepable features under the Legacy Fallback License aren't known in advance, then separate from that, I have zero interest in a subscription. No way. I'm not paying for what I have no interest in (rented books, A.I. features, etc). If this is all going to subscriptions with no option at all separately to purchase feature sets like in the past, and if Faithlife can't announce everything upfront that you'll get under the Legacy Fallback License, then I'm not going along with the "get it all or get none of it" approach.

I do not believe it to be realistic that Faithlife could provide that information two years in advance. There may be internal plans that go that far out, but they would be merely estimations and projections. With this in mind, it seems the choice for you is simple. I hope the full feature set serves you well for many years to come.

Where have you seen a deadline for the discount? Just wait until it has features that are worthwhile for you. But I do think the AI features and Bible Study builder are much better than you think they are and it is probably worth doing the free trial. The advanced search and summarization is incredible.

Again, the non-keepable features, including A.I., are of absolutely no interest to me. As someone who has used Logos for both sermon prep and small group study prep for years, I have absolutely no consideration of these features at all and will not give them any consideration. Regarding a deadline of the discounted subscriptions for Logos 10 full feature set owners, it has been mentioned in other threads that these are not permanently-offered discounts.

They have said the discount may go away later but that there will be lots of notice if that happens. There is no pressure to subscribe now. If you have made up your mind that you don't want to consider the cloud-based features at all to see if their value surprises you, that is your business and you will probably never want to subscribe. Thankfully, you can keep what you have and Logos will continue to give you new versions of the software to run on new computers and operating systems.

To be entirely open, the question is probably just a matter of personal curiosity at this point since this whole, protracted process has left me thinking I'm probably better off just sticking with what I have until I have an actual, rather than a potential, need for any of the new stuff. If there had been a clear proposal up front I would gladly have looked at it, but I don't have the time to invest in all these mammoth threads.

That said, it would be interesting to know just where I stand in the new order.

No.

Let's say you switched to Pro after 1 year of subscribing to Premium.

After two years of subscribing to Premium or above you'd qualify for the Premium LFL. After two years of subscribing to Pro (i.e., after three years in total), you'd qualify for Pro LFL.

It's available to all customers. The two-year upfront payment will be renewed as an annual subscription. We don't yet know whether it will be possible to do another two-year upfront payment at that point.

If you take and English subscription now, you'll have the option to switch to a French subscription when that's released. Any remaining credit on your English subscription would get transferred to your French one.

Great question.The Logos 10 Academic Feature Set (which comes with Logos 10 Academic Standard) will qualify you for a discount on Logos Pro. I've update the chart to include other specialty feature sets from Logos 10.

Can Logos merely add an extension option to the existing 1 year plans in effect? It may actually be less programming.

Also, whatever the solution is, can L or FL post clearly on the main webpage what or where to go? Users are getting skittery over the closing on 10 without knowing what to do for a two year option. ? I tried to extend my existing plan but the site does not allow it. Merely adding an "Extend my Plan" button, then posting to handle it on the subscription screens of a users account may work.

While it isn't available now, there's nothing to worry about. We are planning on supporting an option to get early access subscribers into a 2 year option. When we have the details on how this will work we will let customers know, and make sure there is clear instructions on how to add the extra time. [:)]

It depends on by what you mean by "4th extra free book". The new perk gives an additional free book, and it is not from the "Classics series". It will sit on top of our formal free book promotion, which typically has 1 to 2 free books per month. But there is also a free audio book, ebook, and Verbum book each month. Which is why I called into question the "4th free extra book" comment.

Connect users had a free book perk that sat on top of these monthly freebies. The Connect freebies were from the "Classics" series. This is being replaced by our new perk. With the new perk you can expect the same quality of book that we use in our formal free book program each month.

So to restate, in case you got lost in all the freebies we provide [;)]: Yes, you will get an extra free book that is only available if you subscribe, and it will not be limited to the classics series.

I received the email announcing this today. I was a Connect User from the start and Logos has seemingly done everything in its power to make the changeover to the new subscription model as pleasant an experience as possible. At every step they've gone beyond what I would have expected. Kudos to Mark and the rest of the team. For $30 more per year that what I was paying for Connect Essentials, I've got a more powerful Bible study tool and some serious upgrades.

No.

I understand we can still buy feature packages for Logos 10. My initial impression is that buying the feature upgrade to get a subscription discount is not worth it. It seems to make more sense to pay the two year subscription price, which then unlocks permanent features, rather than buy the feature upgrade and then pay the lower two year subscription price. Am I missing something or are others coming to the same conclusion?

I don't think it's this way. It's more like the more you want, the more you pay. If you already own the Logos 10 Full Feature Set, then you'll keep those features and they will continue to work. Without the subscription, you won't get access to new features. If you own the 10 Full Feature Set, you can have access to any level of the subscription at a lower price. If you own one of the lower levels of the feature set, you can have discounted access to the corresponding subscription tier (I forget the names of the other levels of the Logos 10 Feature sets).

I hope this helps address your concern.

For those who can afford to pay the two-year subscription price, you might be correct (I haven't done the math). However, for those who would have to pay for one year at a time, or maybe monthly, there could be savings. Also, if they are doing it monthly, and then for some reason, they cannot keep it up, they would lose all of the features.

I think Logos aims to benefit people who are on both sides of how they are paying.

Excited to experience new Logos Era. One odd question, please. What happens to "open pre-pubs?" I have requested several which have been "in-production" since March 2023. Still hoping these will remain on order and available soon as I do not understand what's taking so long.

So when I saw this, I have to say I was kinda bummed. I spent money early in the month for Logos Bronze Feature Set after having Starter to take advantage of the Last Chance sale because it would give me a discount on premium subscription. I was waiting to see what the regular prices would be to see if i'd rather just pay full price for the subscription or buy bronze and save on the subscription. I ended up spending the money only to find out the next day that Logos was extending the sale and I felt slightly tricked into buying it on september 6 when i could've waited until the end of this month to make a more informed decision. If Logos was going to extend the sale, why not just publish that up front. I felt like I made a pressured decision. I didn't think much of things after that until I saw this post and see that I spent about $180 to essentially save $2 / mo or worse yet $38 every 2 years. basically, it would take me almost 10 years of my discount for bronze to recoup that. It really took the wind out of my sails on this because I thought that the discount for logos 10 bronze owners would be much more significant than this and I feel like spending the last chance sale money was a poor investment. If I had known these would be the prices, I think I would not have bought the bronze feature set.

Being as you're still within the 30 day return window, you should have no problem returning for a full refund. However, do not forget that as an owner of a Logos 10 feature set, you will receive the Legacy Fallback License, granting you ownership of most non-AI features after two years of subscription. You will not receive this if you return the Bronze feature set.

I have seen that we will receive a 5% discount sitewide. I am in a free month trial currently. Will I see the 5% discount once I have paid for my subscription? Can you show us where that will be indicated, in our checkout page for instance?

I would guess you will see it on the product page under the price. Sometimes Your Price or Dynamic Price is hyperlinked and you can click to see your discount.

Pricing details

First, on early access:

We’re closing early access to our new subscriptions on October 4 to get everything prepped for when we fully launch subscriptions in the fall. If you’re already on early access, no action is required. Your subscription will continue without any interruption.

On the topic of perks, we shared in prior posts about a 5% reward coupon that’s based on your previous year’s spend. If you’ve already started a subscription, we’re showing our appreciation by retroactively starting the 5% annual reward clock to the date your Pro or Max subscription started.

And now, about our subscription pricing details:

We wanted to honor those who've been loyal to Logos and keep to the spirit of dynamic pricing. This means all customers who own a base package will receive special pricing on our new subscriptions.

Logos 10 owners, as we’ve already announced, will receive the best subscription prices based on the feature set they own.

Logos 10 owners will also receive a better price on any subscription where they don’t qualify for the Logos 10 price.

Customers who own any base package (no matter which version or level) will also receive a better price.

Here are the details:

In addition to offering monthly and annual terms, you’ll also be able to pay for two years of an annual subscription upfront. This will be a great opportunity to lock in your subscription price for two years and automatically qualify for the Legacy Fallback License (if you own a Logos base package). For example, if you pay for two years upfront in October 2024, your subscription will not renew until October 2026, at which point your subscription will renew at the annual rate. Our annual terms give you the equivalent of 2 months free, and the two-year upfront option provides 5 months free.

We're excited for you all to experience the next era of Logos as we get ready for launch and an extra big thank you to those who have been part of the early access program. Your feedback has been invaluable to us, and we don't take your time or trust for granted.

Thanks Taylor for this information. The one observation I'd make is that some of us may have spent a small fortune on resources without actually ever buying feature sets. I've spent well in excess of 5 figures and yet this doesn't count for anything in terms of subscription pricing. Perhaps this aspect could be considered. Certainly the subscription model is more attractive to me than the previous lump sum model.

I would think that the list of base packages at Compare Base Packages | Logos Bible Software can be assumed to be exactly that. Logos would have to speak to any of the potential "base packages" not on that list.

I think that makes sense, and on the FAQ, only Fundamentals is called out as an exclusion. Yet, the Discipleship Essentials costs only slightly more. I asked this question via chat support, and I received an unclear "no, it does not count for the subscription." So, I thought it would be worth seeking a specific answer from a source better versed in upcoming releases.

I think I'm at the point where, if nothing I currently have gets reduced functionality or broken in the transition, I will probably opt not to subscribe. The only things I might consider paying two years to eventually get a legacy license aren't actually included with it.

From November of 2023 until now, my total spend with Logos is more than the $4936 that would be required to equal 5% of the 2-year upfront Logos Max plan cost of $246.80.

Does that mean I will get a 2-year Logos Max subscription for free? Does the excess get applied to future years, or how does that work?

From what I understand credits from Logos can only be applies to resources and not to Subscriptions, outstanding debits, or gift vouchers, etc.
