Collocation Analysis in Logos 10

I want to do a collocation analysis for two Greek verbs in the Johannine corpus: ἔρχομαι and ἀποστέλλω. I am specifically wondering if I can run a search to determine the frequency of lemmas appearing within a certain number of words before and after each verb, such as four words before and after the verbs. Along with that, I would like to determine the frequency of the semantic domains for those collocates.

Is this something that can be done in Logos 10?

    Welcome Jonathan,

I am specifically wondering if I can run a search to determine the frequency of lemmas appearing within a certain number of words before and after each verb

Yes, but run your query on a Greek bible. See https://wiki.logos.com/New_Search_HELP#id:3.2e_Proximity  e.g.

    • llemma.g:ἔρχομαι  BEFORE 2 WORDS  lemma.g:προσκυνέω
    • lemma.g:καί  BEFORE 2 WORDS lemma.g:ἔρχομαι  BEFORE 2 WORDS  lemma.g:προσκυνέω

Just beware that each lemma will count as 1 hit in the results

Along with that, I would like to determine the frequency of the semantic domains for those collocates.

Louw-Nida semantic domains? How would you count those  e.g. A query using LN numbers instead of lemmas for the collocates (lemma.g:ἔρχομαι  BEFORE 2 WORDS louwNida:53.56)?

    Thanks Dave,

This is very helpful. A follow up question I have is whether I can run a proximity search for one lemma but leave out the second lemma so that I get every collocate of that word (such as, lemma.g:ἔρχομαι WITHIN 4 WORDS lemma.g:?). For instance, rather than find every time προσκυνέω appears within 4 words of ἔρχομαι, can I find every word that appears within 4 words of ἔρχομαι? I cannot run a proximity search without having two lemmas, is there another way to accomplish this?

Those lemmas will only be identified by a highlight. But a single query will provide results i.e.   lemma.g:* WITHIN 4-4 WORDS lemma.g:ἔρχομαι (we use the true wildcard *). 4-4 is an exact distance of 4 words, so your other lemmas appear in between unless ἔρχομαι  is less than 4 words from the start or end of a verse.
