Libronix 3

I am a lay pastor and radio evangelist who has been using Libronix version 3 for 17 years and it's been great! I have my own notes for roughly 80% of the bible. However, I received a windows update that broke Libronix. The company let me update to Libronix 10 for free, but I have 17 years of notes that I would like to import but, of course, they don't support that.
I am a computer programmer so I am computer savvy. I have also have the Version 3 note file (about 16 megabytes). I thought I read that the new Note format is encrypted sql lite. Any ideas how I could import my notes from Version 3 to Version 10?
I would sure appreciate any help! God bless!

Hi Darin
Welcome to the forums.
I'll bet there is somebody about who might help you. There are some pretty clever folk who hang out round here.
I take it that when you spoke about updating to version 10 you now mean Logos 10 (which is technically Logos 36.1.6)
There are not many who monitor the Libronix forum.
Might I suggest that you copy your post and put it in the main 'Desk Top App' forum where it will get greater traction.tootle pip

Unfortunately, I don't think it is possible anymore. Logos dropped support for importing Libronix books 5 years ago. https://community.logos.com/forums/t/183225.aspx
What file format is the old notes file in? Maybe we could hack together a way to put it into a personal book file. BibleWorks notes can also be imported. If we could find someone with an old BibleWorks file, maybe we could match up the formatting. https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016299072-Import-BibleWorks-NotesUsing Logos as a pastor, seminary professor, and Tyndale author

This is a long-shot, but it might work...
- Install Logos 7.19 (download here). You have to make sure it doesn't automatically update to a newer version, so disable "Use Internet" in Program Settings and don't install any updates.
- Run the "import notes" command (see https://wiki.logos.com/Importing_from_LDLS3) to import Libronix Notes as Logos 7 Notes Documents.
- Install Logos 8.17 (download here). This should upgrade the Logos 7 Notes Documents to the Logos 8 Notes Tool format.
- Install the latest version of Logos: https://www.logos.com/install. Turn Use Internet back on to sync your notes.

Documents, not books. Licenses and books from Libronix can be read in the current version of Logos.

Adding, even longer shot and checking Justin's idea.
I never took notes in either Libby or BW. But looks like they both used an xml coding, though organized differently (files, formats).
As above suggested, example files from both would be good (incl differing delimiters).

It's a proprietary XML/HTML-based format. I'm not aware of any tools out there that read it, but I haven't checked recently.

Thank you very much Mike, I sure appreciate it!

Thank you Gentlemen for your responses! Yeah, it's an xml file and last week I tried to install the older versions without any success. But with prayer, anything's possible!

Hi Bradley, I was finally able to get 7.19 running, must be prayer and I did a custom install this time. But clicking here: https://wiki.logos.com/Importing_from_LDLS3 takes me to a page with another link: https://wiki.logos.com/Importing_Notes_from_LDLS3
But that has a link: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS3Import/UpdateNotes.lbxctb which when I click displays:
Update NotesUpdate Notes Now Application.ExecuteCommand("dialog|name=UpgradeAnnotations");
That's supposed to down load the custom toolbar that I need. But something seems to be missing. Any ideas?

It looks like your browser is showing the contents of that file instead of downloading it. As a workaround, right-click the link in your previous post and choose "Save as" (or the equivalent command in the browser you use):
Then you can save it to the [MyDocuments]\Libronix DLS\CustomToolbars folder.
Note that this requires you to be able to run Libronix to execute that custom toolbar command. It is an optional step, so if you're unable to run Libronix DLS right now, I think you can skip it. I don't remember exactly, but it looks like that button updated the saved position of notes and highlights to account for resource updates. The good news is that Logos 7.15 and later are much better at loading positions saved for older versions of resources, so it should be OK if you skip this step. (But if you are able to run it, certainly no harm in doing so.)

Thank you very much Bradley! I now have all my notes imported into Logos 7. It's not exactly the format that I want but I think we're getting there, praise God!

Notes have improved some since Logos 7, so after you install logos 8 to upgrade them and then upgrade to Logos 10, you might be even happier

Bradley, let me ask you one more question and if you need to pass on it, I certainly understand. My Libronix 3 runs but is broken (which is why I'm needing to update). It used to be I would bring up my bible and see bible verses highlighted with my notes and I could hover over an individual note and read it. My bible now has no notes at all but I see all my notes in the separate Notes Window. Also, if I press Control - G, it used to go to the search bar where I could enter a bible verse and it would take me directly to that bible verse. That is broken and reinstall has not fixed either of those. Any ideas what might be wrong? Maybe a .NET issue?

I am not Bradley, but I can help with this. Once you are on the latest version of Logos, open a Bible and click the little venn diagram thing. Then under Notes and Highlights, check the box next to your notes and they will start showing up in your Bible. Here is the relevant screenshot from the tutorial.

Alternative idea for setting "Use Internet" to No is using command:
Set Update Channel to manual
When Update Channel is manual, Use Internet can be used for syncing data and downloading resources.

A) were you able to click the "Update Notes Now" button in Libronix after installing the custom toolbar, or did you skip that step?
Have you updated through Logos 8 to Logos 10, or are you still running Logos 7?
C) Have you let the program connect to the Internet and download the latest resources?
Unfortunately, there's a chance that if you weren't able to complete all those steps, Logos may not have been able to correctly determine the positions of your notes as taken in Libronix. That will prevent the highlights from appearing in your Bible because the program doesn't know where to position them in the text.
Before doing anything else, I would recommend installing Logos 8 (as per my previous post), letting it update your Notes to the latest format, then turn "Use Internet" back on and let the system download the latest version of Logos and the latest books. This may provide the information the system needs to reposition your notes & highlights.

My apologies Bradley, I wasn't clear. 10 days ago I had a windows update that broke my Libronix 3 so what my last post described is how my Libronix 3 has looked for 10 days. I downloaded the custom toolbar but because my Libronix 3 is broken, the custom toolbar/button does not appear.
When I imported notes into Logos 7, I saw my all my notes, but I can't figure out how to open a KJV bible to see if the notes link up with the bible.
I tried to install Logos 8.17 but the link gives a 404 so I installed 8.11 instead. I do not see my notes in 8.11 (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?). In Logos 7 they are titled "General Notes".
Thank you so much everyone for your time!

Open the Library, either from the tool bar or using Ctr+L
In the search bar type KJV
Experiment with 'Visual Filters' if your notes aren't showing.
Have a try with the Web Version at 'App.Logos.Com'

Sorry, I misunderstood that this entire question was about Libronix DLS 3.
It doesn't use .NET, so I can confidently rule out it being a .NET issue.
It's been so long that I don't remember how notes & highlights were controlled in Bibles in Libronix. Have you checked in Tools > Options > General > Notes and ensured that your Notes Files are selected for display?

Unfortunately, that's part of what is broken. There should be default colors showing up but there's not. And the note file is missing from the Listbox below. I do have an old computer that is running Libronix 3 and I've tried copying everything from it to my good computer, but it's still not working. So I must have missed something [:(]

Did you copy everything from "My Documents\Libronix DLS", particularly the "Annotations" subfolder?
0 -
Yeah, I definitely copied that over. The only thing I can think of is that Libronix 3 pulls in a browser and maybe my last Windows update brought in a browser that is not compatible. I say this because I'm getting javascript errors when I try to modify the Options dialog. I do appreciate your help with this. I probably ought to concentrate on getting my notes into Logos 10. Thank you so much!

Have you tried working with a VM? If you install Win XP and Libronix from scratch on a VM, and copy your notes fil over, it should hopefully work again. And then gradually update to Logos 7, so that the notes sync with the Logos server and become available in Logos 10.

So I'm in Logos 10 with all my 14,347 notes but i think the problem is that they're not anchored. I can clearly see which bible verse they belong to, is there a way to automatically anchor them? I'll keep searching myself.

Sorry Justin, I missed your response. I wasn't sure which 3 dots you meant as I see 2 possible:

darrin donahue said:
For a note icon to appear in the text, the note needs to be "anchored" - either to a biblical reference or a portion of text.
The Notes Tool information shows that only three of the notes are anchored - one in each of Daniel, Matthew and Luke. This explains why you aren't seeing anything in Genesis.
Can you click one of the Genesis notes you are showing - which will open the note in the Notes tool. Then post a screenshot of that which will provide details of anchors which, as I say, will probably be missing. And this may be related to the import process (although I know nothing about that).
0 -
I think you are 100% correct Graham. Somehow the import process did not create the anchors, even though the notes seem to understand exactly which texts they belong to. I'm trying to attach the screen shot. I always see it in the reply box, but when I press the Post button, half the time the screen shot disappears.

-
Here are the three dots I mean. But you are right, all of your notes are listed as unanchored, unfortunately.

I know this is basically the worst case scenario, but you could click the menu (circled) for each note, click "add anchor" and type the Bible verse in. Other than that, I think Bradley is the only one who might be able to help you.

Again, thank you everybody for your help with this. Last question, which I think I know the answer to, each note knows exactly which bible verse it applies to. Is there a way to run a single command to anchor them all based on the bible verse they apply to?

Unfortunately, no, there is no command in Logos to do this automatically.
