Extra, Free Resources & Books?

Greetings!

Like many of you, I am trying to filter through the new Logos updates. I was on an academic subscription through my school--a rent-to-own program--and I was granted access to my account back in May upon graduation. I had heard that the new update was coming, but I figured that since I did not have any specific subscription plan, my version of Logos 10 would remain unchanged.

However, I logged in my account this morning to find that I had 500 extra resources, none of which I paid for or subscribed to. A gracious gift by Logos? I am not sure. My excitement was stifled by the realization that these might be temporary resources with the new launch. While my account says that I currently do not have a subscription with Logos, I am unsure where these books--mostly commentaries, homiletical guides, and lexicons from what I could gather--came from.

Does anyone have insight regarding this? Has this phenomenon happened to others? I am thankful for any and all thoughts!

Welcome to the Forums, Alex!

I'm sure someone from Customer Service will be able to look into this for you and find out what caused the 500 resources to download.

Are you sure that they're brand-new downloads and not updates?

The way to tell is in Library - filter Last Updated and/or Added.

You can also filter the Licence types - Permanent, Temporary, None - to see if you own these resources or not.

This is tremendously helpful, thank you. I did examine the tabs that you pointed out, and I discovered that these books are, in fact, on a temporary license. I suppose that they were just added for the time being to coincide with the new update.

As a follow up question, are you familiar with how long these Temporary Licenses last? This is all completely new to me...

Alex, those are almost certainly the 500 resources that come with the new Logos Pro subscription. They are yours as long as you maintain your Logos Pro subscription.

EDIT: Since you don't claim to have a Logos subscription, the next question is, do you have one and not know it? Look at your account on Logos.com and the subscriptions 'tab'.

Even though the licenses say "temporary," they may still be updates to resources you previously had on your computer. Resource updates are common, especially as new features are released.

That is nearly impossible to answer. If you were a subscriber, we might be able to point to some temporary books/courses that have a predetermined length of time. Other resources are "temporary" with the free "purchase" of something like "Logos Basic." Those resources are indefinitely available. You do not own them. They could be removed at any time. You do not receive dynamic pricing for them (while you only have a "temporary" license).

In addition to what the others have said, you can check your "subscription status" in About Logos section via the burger menu located below/next to your profile picture.

That should show what version of Logos you currently have and whether you are subscribed to anything.

One thought is that you had a Connect subscription while in School that carried over and converted with the new update to a Logos Pro subscription for the remainder of the term.

Thank you all for this help, through all of your messages I have been able to piece everything together. Since I have no current subscription, which I checked, these resources should disappear in time unless I acquire a new plan.

I am surprised that this experience has not seemed to happen to others, but in any case, I will enjoy what I can from the package while it lasts. I appreciate your time and expertise!

I own many of the features, but it does not seem that I own that exact package, as there are several resources that are missing. I received the package several years ago, though, so perhaps they updated the contents. I cannot recall exactly what academic package I owned, but I do believe it was at least a step or two above the basic package.

I hope this helps, though I wish my answer was a bit more clear.

I have checked this a few times, and it does not seem that I have any purchase history. This may be because I acquired the program indirectly through a license transfer, though, so I did not technically "purchase" it. That is my guess, at least.
